Got the beast...now for the mods!

Hi all,

Just got my new 1200GS from Bahnstormer (excellent service - tried to post a review in the dealers section but don't have access?) and am very pleased with the bike. Obviously now want to add some extras so am looking at the following:

Radiator grille
Headlight protector
Some kind of hugger
Fender extender
Maybe top body bars (got the Motech engine bars - do I really need the top ones?)
Can I fit my old Stebel Magnum horns?
Do I need the "special" battery charger or can I just use on Optimate straight onto the battery? The manual suggests not, but £69 for the BMW charger seems like an opportunist (if not an absolute rip off) cost.

Any help / opinions / shrieks of laughter greatly appreciated! :hide

Hi Welcome, can't comment on much of your e-mail, but with regards the hugger and fender extender - suggest looking at Nippy Normans options

Note if you intend taking the GS offroad through mud then you don't want a hugger that is too close to the rear tyre so would suggest something like a Mudsling (also from Nippy Normans) instead.

As you are only in Newbury could easily meet at some point if you want to see a fitted hugger and fender extender (although not this coming weekend)

If you use the search tool you should find loads of stuff on Stebel horns and battery chargers etc - have fun

We only let subscribers post on the dealers section......that's 'cos we occupationally get a one-hit wonder come on, slag someone off and dissappear....not fair to the dealers and it could be anyone doing it for no reason aprt from having a chip on their shoulder....You'll have access to it as soon as you subscribe though which also gives you access to the FS&W section for the toys you're talking about as well as being able to PM (private message) someone here

Yes you can fit your horns....use the search button above and type in 'stebel fitting' and you'll find loads of threads and pictures about the procedure and mounting etc :thumb2

No, you don't 'need' the bmw battery charger...if you really want to use a charger, there are others out there which are cheaper and will do the same job.....again, use the search button for 'optimate' and have a read and you'll see all the info.

Read up on that one carefully.......why do you actually need one? (and a lot of us think that they're actually not a good idea anyway)

Similar with motech bars....search for those too :thumb2

Whatever you do, don't ever ask what oil to put in the bike :blast
