Everywhere I dont really want to be...
Im not sure if this is in the right section, but after riding my 1150GSA Ive kinda realised that my K12RS has to go for the following reasons:

1) Toooo Bloody FAAAST. :rob
2) SWMBO wont ride with me on the K (too fast) nor the GSA ("too high up").
3) Speeding fines constantly mount up...:blast
4) Arguments with SWMBO before /after since shes "scared you wont come back..." sort of thing...
5) See item 1....

...although the KRS is a great piece of equipment (highly recomended), she just has to go (the bike...not the Girl-friend!)

The GSA is "tooo big" for SHMBO - so I need something slower/lower. The better half has "formally approved" that I can sell the K and buy a R12C (she likes the "colour and the seat"...or a Triumph (she likes the style, the look, the colour..but not fond of the seat)......

Now the price of a new Triumph (America/Speedmaster) is about the same as a 8-10 Y.O R12C here so the choice is difficult.

I like the 12C, its far enough removed from the HD boys (..do they all have perfect hair?), I like the styling (...its a luv/hate thing...), the build quality, ABS, and also the fact that they arent made anymore, so depreciation is also a factor.

As for the Triumphs, yep like them too. Id get a RIII if I was allowed (see items 1-5 above), and SWMBO doesnt like the Thunderbird (too big again).
The America/Speedmaster kinda fit the bill...but Im concerned about reliabilty/build quality, and I dont like looking after chains :ymca

So heres the question (s)

1) What is a good compliment to a GSA for relaxed summer riding (any bike)
2) Anyone with experience care to rate the Triumph Cruisers / BMW R12C.

Im off to try and test ride both this weekend, so the trade in value will also factor into the decision....

Any opinions?

Had a work mate who had the cruiser.. thought it was great... but I wouldn't want to do long distances two up on it, with luggage ;)

The standard 12GS is lower than the 1150 ADV, 1200 ADV... why not give one a try?

If SWMBO says the 1150 is too fast that points to a faulty throttle hand :D

...Not for long distance, Just summer riding...

...I like my bikes to be Metal...Fair point though..SWMBO did say that the standard 12GS was a better fit for me

For some reason the fault only occurs on the K12RS, Ive checked the wiring, fuel source, but the problem still persists :nenau

Summer Bike

I had a CB1300 immediately prior to my previous GS, It had fun potential but was easy to ride two up and pootle about on. Honda build quality, big simple and only as fast as the throttle hand twists. Because it was a naked you didn't feel like you needed to go quickly, but it still had good pace from a standing start. However it is obviously chain drive and no standard centre stand. Or Steve McQueen cool on a Triumph Scrambler.

Apparently they sound lovely on an Arrow system!:D

You know you can lower the seat on the GSA ;) Won't help SWMBO though.

If you're after a slow plodder, then the GSA fits the bill. I guess the GS is slightly livelier than the GSA due to the weight difference, but it still isn't going to be lightening quick, so that probably fits the bill also. IF SWMBO doesn't want a tall bike though the GS and GSA are out of the question.

I have a soft spot for Triumph and have owned 2, but don't know much about the cruisers. If I was going down that route though it'd have to be the Rocket III :drool

Get your balls out of her hand-bag and buy what you like.

If the only reason you'll not check out a modern touring Harley is a fear of bankers then you're not doing yourself any favours; there's no need to dress like a land pirate.

Though personally I can't stand Harley Ferguson bikes I have to agree with the above - who are you buying it for after all?

Try everything twice! (except incest and morris dancing)

Mup.

I fancied a cruiser but didn't want a Harley (yes I have ridden a couple). After testing the Rocket 3 I ended up buying a 91 full power Vmax (Rocket was just toooo feckin big).
6 months later bought an 07 1200GS and as a result the Vmax does 300 miles a year where the GS does 8,000.
Often think about replacing the VMax with a Triumph Speedmaster/Bonneville America but in truth I can't see that doing many more miles per year so haven't bothered.
In reality the GS does everything with ease and without any thinking about the weather or what kit to put on. Even better it don't need more polishing than riding.
A mate of mine is a Big Harley fan with 3 in his garage but since buying a BMW he's now hooked.
Step away from the Harley Brochure and buy a low seat for the BMW.

Buy a SuperDuke and a cushion...

I did try a Roadking out last year - definitely won't have a problem with speed, comfy, suprisingly pleasent to ride - I actually enjoyed it a lot!

I'd have a look for an R1150RS - lower, but a lot of similarities to the GS and cheaper to boot...

Nice problem to have though!

..You know, sometimes I do like the look of the HDs...but I just cant, wont, never, never never...nope...nooo.... want to be grouped with those guys.

... I just cant do the "banker with 20 grand bought a bike, sunglasses, and a hair comb" bit....

Blimey, you don't think there are 1001 bankers out there that have watched the long way round, and done exactly that and bought a GS ??!!!!

Dont bother with the speedmaster go straight to the Rocket 111 Touring:clap

Complements my G.S.A very well:thumb
