Aproximately four weeks ago I decided to part exchange my Vara mainly because they have stopped making them and I wanted to sell before it depreciated too much in value. It was a great bike and had only done 3k on a 10 Reg and was in good nick.
I saw today that it has just been sold so hopefully someone out there is the new proud owner.Anyway I wanted to part ex it for a GS but we could not strike a deal as I had limited funds so instead I brought a CB100R new at a reduced price.Very long story short even with a seat modification added screen I could not get comfortable.
So after a long and angry conversation with the wife who just wanted to keep reminding me of what a prat I had been in buying it and how much money we had lost, yes we had lost I got permission to go looking again.
Yes you have guessed it back to the showroom to salivate over the GS yet again and just like last time we ended up with a great big gap with the money I had to spend and what the dealer wanted.Which served to remind me without the wife telling me this time what a prat I had been and how much money I had lost.
Isn't it funny how dealers can one minute seem like your best friend and the sworn enemy the next.
Anyway the good news is that I am at least back to an adventure bike, just as long as I do not want to go off road, which I do not as riding on the road is hard enough, as I have brought a Tiger 1050. Its great to be back up where I want to be and enjoying the view and at least in comparison to the Vara its a revelation.
Oh yes and before I finish this site has a lot to answer for because in my pursuit of motorcycling excellence I always adhere to the advice offered to prospective GS owners on here when its said if you want one do not bother to test ride it.So having followed that advise for some time now I have ended up buying a few dummies.
When the wife again calls me a prat, she loves me really, for not taking a bike for a test ride and I try to explain that its an academic exercise anyhow as by even looking at your hearts desire you are already smitten so nothing is going to really get you to change your mind she does not seem to grasp the logic of it all.
So all you ladies out there do you know what I mean or do you agree with my wife.If your going to HU Ripley meet and you see a Black 1050 stop and say hello.
