Having found out that Garmin are no longer supporting the 2610, I am in the market for an upgrade. My needs are simple enough. The 2610 with the Lane Assist feature would have done me very well thankyou, and blue tooth essential to stop garrotting myself at petrol stations.

Lots on here seem to recommend the Zumo 660? I am inclined to stick with Garmin as their support - (right up until the last!) has been very good. Is this state of the art for motorcycle GPS?

Is it possible to get a single earpiece for the blue tooth part? I dont have autocom or a stereo, or feel the need to make phone calls whilst riding. I just need a small earpiece that doesn't need a wire!

I would be most grateful for informed opinion or personal recommendation.

Ive had a Garmin 500, 550 and now a 660

The 660 is certainly the latest and a great bit of kit and comes with lane assist which is handy and operates like any other car based Satnav.

you are also able to pre plan routes on your pc using the software provided and even view in google earth if you wish.

I actually found that the 550 was just as good apart from no lane assist and a smaller screen but feels better put together, saying this I did drop my 660 onto concrete with no issues.

When the 660 first came out it had a few glitches but all works fine now.

Both units work fine with bluetooth for phone and autocom as you would expect.

With regards t ear pieces, Im sure you can use a bluetooth headset although how you get this inside your lid is anyones guess, I used a set of in ear phones which plug into the unit and work a treat.

The only ther thing I would add is that the 550 came with some buttons for navigation which I prefer over the touch screen only when wearing gloves.

You wont go wrong with either but depends what deals you can get.

Needs to be with the number of problems and returns required. I'm on my third replacement 2610 (all with delaminated screens), now this one has delaminated too. Friend of mine has had the same problems with a 2610, a 660 which has to be returned and a Nuvi which locks up constantly and has to go back too.

i use a garmin 660 paired with a scala rider fm. the reason i went for the scala rider fm is it came with 2 earpieces where as the scale rider only has 1 earpiece. have a look on flebay, sometimes scala rider's appear quite cheap

i Tech headpiece

Thanks for the vote of confidence re the Zumo. Which Itech headset have you gone for? I've taken a quick look on the website you posted and can't see how any could be worn under a helmet?
