When I tried fitting my Ram mount to the GS1200 I found the U bolt and ball bracket are too small to fit round the huge handlebars. After searching the web sites I located an Ram ball with an 8mm bolt which fits into the front bar clamp screw.
Fits a treat, and only£11.00 from SenderCity a site found on Amazon. This compares with £22.00+ for some adventure bike sites.
Sat nav now fitted and ready to tour, just needs power.

Plugs easily into the handy power socket, or so I thought,

What a stupid place for a socket, yet another 0/10 to BMWs development. I fitted a short Hella plug with thin wires plugged into my GPS. Powered up OK so I tested the bars for left/right free movement-----Snap. The brake hose snags the cable on the end of the pug and snapped it in half leaving the brass insert inside the socket.

Shit-Shit-Shit

I will now have to replace all my plugs with expensive 90 deg type.

Guess they never tested the bike with plugs into the sockets. Attention to detail on this bike is poor, almost designed so the only bits you can fit are specially developed for the bike.

Its a good job its so nice to ride, and I suppose that's really what its all about.

I fitted the satnav on mine today, you can get a u bolt on the bars by the mirror left hand side.
Eventually I will fit it above the speedo on the TE satnav bar.i took the power from the connector under the beak.
Might get some angle plugs though for other bits in view of your problem.
You are right though they do ride so well,so light after the RT. You planning any other extra,s.

Hi you can get a plug and cable from BMW that plugs into a socket inside the right hand side of the beak looking down from the riders position. its cable tied with a blanking plug fitted ,it works sat nav fine. they will not work from the aux socket you have used , hope this helps

Thanks biggeorge. So many spare plugs down there, shame the hand book has no information about what they can be used for. I located the larger plug fixed on the front right hand side and hooray I found my GPS plug fitted straight in and powered up OK.
The plug is from Nippy Normans- http://www.nippynormans.com/product...mtom-gps-into-the-bmw-harness-gar-canbuszu660 I connected the leads to my Garmin GPSmap60 and have run all day with no effect on the Canbus system.

Regarding the snagging of the Hella plug on the Brake hose, I tried a few more devices and have not been able to replicate the problem. It did happen so its probably best to check lock to lock bar movement before riding off with a plug in. Its likely to have been caused by tugging the wire. The broken plug was not a genuine BMW plug, it was £2.99 from a caravan shop and the broken section which held the brass connection on was only a few mm in diameter.
Note to me, "A BARGAIN IS ONLY A BARGAIN IF ITS A DISCOUNTED GENUINE ITEM. ITS CHEAP FOR A REASON."
