GPS V 2.30 released 30 July

Streetpilot III

New software v2.50 just released. It's a 1 mb download - doesn't seem to contain anything too earth-shattering...

Has anyone else uploaded the 2.30 for GPS V and tried it yet. I have it and today , being nice and sunny, I thought I'd take the beast out and go ride one of the tracks I had recorded.
I have done this prior to the upload of 2.30 without a problem and I regarded it as one of the good features of this GPS unit.

Ok, so today with 2.30 loaded I start trackback and it's a right mess.
The route line is no longer a bold grey line which follows the road - now I have a feeble dotted line which I just can't see when I am riding. If I zoom in to about 50 metres scale then you can see which way the track goes but at 300 metres scale ( normal for me) it just look like a road , so any crossroads or junctions and I couldn't proceed.
Also the track back no longer follows the exact road direction - it has sort of averaged a straight line over it.

I am well pissed off with this and will check with Garmin tech support first thing Monday - this is rubbish !!!!

If anyone else has the 2.30 uploaded I would welcome your comments as to if you are getting the same on trackback.

Cheers
Gecko

PS I guess this means I'll have to drive the old fashined way then - using a map and signs ;)

I've updated mine but haven't had a chance to test it out yet.

It might be related to the fact that the update was mainly an improvment to the WAAS capability that's only available in the US.

Just an idea. I'll let you know how I get on once I've been out.

I spoke to Garmin Tech support this morning and they told me that this is an intentional 'improvement' in the software. They have also disabled the 'Lock on road' feature when using trackback.

Conclusion is that if you use trackback and you want to be able to follow the route as if it were a normal route in navigation mode i.e. easy to see bold grey route line which exactly follows the road DO NOT UPGRADE to version 2.30.

I am downgrading back to 2.20 today.

The down grade back to 2.20 hasn't helped . Me and Messrs Garmin aren't get on well at the moment......their techies are not up to speed on this upgrade and what it does.
