GPX - Routes for bikes in Aragón

Thanks for this, Berin.

I have created the first route (The Route of the Oases) in MyRoute on my iPad, using the iPad’s split screen capability:

Whilst the distance (84 km / 50 miles) along with shape of the route look to be correct and there is often only one road, the road numbers don’t always seem to match those in the blurb.

The second route (Route of the Ice Houses and Cold Vaults)

The Google map of the route didn’t display on my iPad, but the route’s description in the blurb did match with the road numbers. The distance looks to be out.

Anyway, here it is, as I think it’s just about right:

The third route (Route of Land and Art).

Again, the Google map doesn’t display on an iPad, but I think I have got it near enough correct, as the estimated distance just about matches-up.

Route four (Route 232)

I am not sure that I have got this entirely correct, not least as the directions to take (turn left, for example) sometimes do not match the roads and / or it seems to take very small roads which are not on the Here maps. I had to switch into the Michelin map layer and force the route along.

Anyway, here it is. Make of it what you will.

Fabulous scenery down there. I had some business with the organisers back in 2017, good helpful crew 👍

I did a couple of your trips down there Simon - amazing tarmac and just fantastic trails for my GSA.
Lives long in the memory.
thank you.

Alcaniz looks like a nice place to use as a base for this area. There's a Parador at the top of the hill in the castle

Indeed, it would be.

Here is a single file, with the routes superimposed, one on top of another. It is easy to see that, when superimposed, the routes (though separate) often follow the same roads, just at different times and / or maybe in different directions.

To display the overlays, you may need to open the colum on the left, tap on ‘routes’ and then (maybe) on one of the embedded routes.

Ah, those were the days! I drove through the area last week picking up a new husky from a rescue centre - a timely reminder to get down there by bike again :)

That’s where we stayed. Lovely place, but it’s a stiff pull walking back uphill from town. I’d recommend to eat in the Parador, restaurant is good and also the bar does nice a nice steak sandwich

if I use a Parador, I tend to go half board

I tend to mix it up for trips between a few Paradors and more modest places

Yup, all good here, enjoying being an old boring retired bloke. Bit of a topsy-turvey year - didn't get to ride down to Camping Algarbe (Terriente) as I usually do - but ending well I hope :)

We stayed at this Parador a few years ago. It is one of the better ones (and they're all pretty good).

If you're staying half board, and subject to what you have planned during the day, it's worth having a late lunch. Decent brekkie at 10, full lunch at 2:30, and no need to eat again that day!

This one- really nice and also an interesting building, as they usually are

after a Parador breakfast, I don't need lunch. A coffee or two and maybe an ice cream during the day. I usually finish riding around 4 ish and take a stroll after showering. You get peanuts or other snacks with a beer to tide you over until dinner at 8pm.
