Graphic Tablets

I've got a Graphire 3 because I couldn't afford posh stuff like you, sir. I also don't use it enough to justify it or to give up the desk space. When I get a bigger desk (or lose the two 19inch CRTs for similar TFTs now that i can get 1600x1200 on TFT...) an A4 tablet will be on the shopping list.

It is the mutt's nuts for fine work on anything though. It's a lot easier to control the pen than a mouse.

Graphire 3 A5 - great device. Gotta start using it more often.

Use it for colouring b&w linework (and various other photoshoppery) - gonna try and use it for inking and colouring striaght from pencil sketches in future.

I'm carrying out some work for Wacom Components as we are implementing the Wacom inductive touch technology in to smart phones (instead of resistive). We have a 3mm dia pen which still measures pressure and angle.
1st handset will be announced later this year with a launch in 1Q06.

So quick question, do see any advantages in using Wacom tech in handsets? There are a few but I would like your comments.
I'll see if I can get you a discount on the Cross pens:cool:

Sounds good in the handsets...let us know about the pens mate...will be interested...
This purchase goes through as a business expense - hence I wasn't too worried about the price...if I do well over the coming months - I'll consider one of the Cintiq 21' screens....

So you like gadgets

Full tablet PC with Wacom touch tablet built in as well as WiFi etc.

***COUGH***

Sorry, just a touch of geek overload...

Can't imagine what you could use a pressure sensitive phone screen for, but then again I never had any imagination. That's why I'm poor.

Camera! it's a phone!

Cough.. Of course pressure and angle measurement are of great importance with the inclusion of biometrics into handsets. Korea was the first country to include real online banking via the handset, currently using finger print readers built into the handset and iris recognition (www.qritek.co.kr who licence Samsung). In the US they use the wacom tablet for signature recognition hence pressure (256 levels) and angle of pen, this is now coming to a handset near you. The device also allows lots of other applications, for example simplifying Chinese character input when texting.
Apart from these exciting new methods of making revenue for the operators, using resistive touch screens is expensive due to the high failure rate in manufacture, hence the need for a more reliable technology.

Now, let me tell you about piezo actuation autofocus, or wavefront coding, LCD shutters blah blah all for phones
