I am creating a movie using .avi's from a Digital Video Camera and would like to add some graphics.

The movie is a travelog and I would like to include a graphic of a plane flying from the UK to Uganda. Or the sort of thing on the BBC News when they show a map of Africa then zoom into country.

What software do they use ? Is something you can run on a home PC ?

I am using Premiere Elements 4

Have you tried using Windows Movie Maker? I've seen some damn good videos created using it!

3 channels

I think it has 3 channesls. From the help: Every clip in Adobe Premiere Elements is composed from three color channels: red, green, and blue.

I tried Movie Maker which is similar to Premiere Elements and I use Photoshop Elements for photographs. So I bought Premiere.

okay can you put JPEGS into the second video timeline? and can you do picture in picture transitions?

the question is this if you can imagine the video file size that you can see on a TV is 720x576

if you size the JPEG as above then it fills the frame completely.

So now imagine your taking a JPEG that's 3x as big 2160x1728

if you drop that on the time line what would you get?

well it a vignette of the image now you can move the image around infront of the camera in effect the image you can see. This type of movement is similar to rostrum camera work done in a studio.

You can use the keyframe function in the tool box under file properties or you could just grab the handles on the edge of the image to drag it about.

Does any of this make any sense or does it sound like I'm making alien noises????

Ah! Timely question. They've just installed VizRT at Television Centre and they do a very nice maps package.....

And yes, you could just about run it on a home PC. But if you need to know the price you can't, IYSWIM ;)

No ... this makes some sense

I don't understand it all but I will try this over the weekend

Thanks

Or try this

google earth, use screen screen grab turn the screen grab into a JPEG photoshop it to suit your needs.

resolution of about 1024x768 should be ok

then insert as JPEG into time line add key frames to move (pan / tilt)

dislove between multiple screen grabs to do zoom ins and out.

Google earth is free....:thumb2
