Hi All
My bike feels like it has a grinding coming through the drive train? Thoughts?
Many thanks

Doesn't seem to be any play? Am I supposed to be holding at 3 and 9 o'clock position?
It doesn't feel very smooth to turn the wheel?

I've had to keep hosing down the rear caliper to get grit/salt out. It feels awful, like the FD, shaft or gearbox is full of little bits of metal, but flushing the caliper cures it as it just turned out to be crud off the road.

Sounds Familiar.....

I had the same, replaced the Rear bevel / Hub oil, and discovered I did in fact have a big problem (it came out silver in stead of black)

So bike has just come back from having the bearing replaced, nice and smooth now.

So, check the oil this will give you a clue

It was indeed said rear bevel drive bearing. Mr Steptoe requested the bike be returned to him for the fixing of immediatley if not sooner! Fixed it while I waited too!
Cheers Neil.:beerjug:

Blimey these are getting very common, Steptoe did mine last Wednesday.

What mileage?

Mine showed symptoms a while back, did yours just go or did the grinding appear over a while?

Mine had done 42k. It went very quickly. I thought i was feeling some grinding through the footpegs on my 30 mile journey into work. On the return journey I definetly felt it. Went to work on the bike the next day (yesterday) and the grinding went from being noticable, to worrying, on that 60 mile trip. Strangely it was hardly detectable at 70mph but at low speed and on the over run it was dire!

It started to feel bad enough that I would have parked it up and left it, if say Neil hadn't been able to do it for a week. Not sure if it would have got steadily worse or anything, but I wouldn't have been happy riding it like that.

Cheers
Dave

Same here Dave,

Hardly noticeable at speed but when I slowed down it was terrible. If Neil hadn't been good enough to do it that same day I would have left it parked up somewhere until it could have been looked at.

On my way to Neils place from the M25 there are a couple of underpasses and going through them I could actually hear the grinding sound too.

Here's Taipans bevel output bearing - not as bad as Jons,

The cage had just started to break up - 1 very small section gone, and 1 tiny securing pin missing - but it felt extremely notchy and rough - i was surprised at how little of the bearing was causing it .

Section missing

Pin missing

I knew I shouldn't start reading this thread:

Grinding feeling through footpegs - check
Smooths out at speed - check
'Feels' like a grinding bearing - check
Mechanical paranoia - check

On the plus side I've had it for 8000 miles, there's been no swarf in the hub oil, there's no play in there, and I couldn't feel any grinding when the hub was off recently.

Must be the TKC80s.
