Hi, all,

Can anyone shed light on the merits (or, probably, otherwise) of running a Gripster on the rear of an R100GS with a Trailmax on the front - if only for a short period of time? I have a nearly new Gripster on the rear of my bike but, if the bike's not sold, I have a 900 mile trip in mind next month and a local shop has a 90/90-21 Trailmax they are happy to give me. Normally I'd never mix tyres - even if both are radial - but it sparked the question so I'd be interested in any comments/feedback even if negative.

Thanks

Jono

Probably be alright, obviously you wouldn't push as hard with a matched pair but steady riding should be OK.......

but would your insurance be happy if you had a bump ?

As a safety thing, it's unlikely to be a problem. Make sure you keep within the common rules for tyres (Crossply on front, Radial on rear and a speed rating above that that you are likely to be reaching) and you shouldn't have any issues.

Matched tyres only really become an issue when power gets quite a bit over 100bhp.

Your insurance is unlikely to give a toss, as long as you stick to the 'crossply/Radial' rule.

Val.

Thanks very much!!....... I'll do some quiet checking on the insurance issue as that's a thought, Kenny, even if Val's right. I'm selling the GSPD but if no-one wants it now (and I have deliberately gone a bit high on the price, it must be the lowest mileage one out there) I'll take the TRailmax as it's gratis and do that trip anyway....

Thanks again

J
