For those with H/B crash bars fitted, do they touch down?or are they designed not to interfere with ground clearance.I am fitting some this weekend, but I am a little worried about loosing valuable inches as I run 17inch rims.Andy

bars

It just looks like they stick out that much further than the pots,I don't want to bet I can scrap them I just want to know thats all simple question:D .Andy

Andy, James Bryan, the guy with the Red GS1100 with alloys sold me his Hepco & B engine bars because when he did a track day with them on they were touching down... he runs a 17" front with an 18" back :(

Looks like you’ll need to glue some sliders to the bars then Andy. Of course you could always sell me your wheels.:moped:

Yes, they will touch down if you are brave/silly enough. I am firmly in the latter category, and on separate occasions I have touched down:
the H&B bars only, on the RHS
the centre stand only, on the RHS (maybe hit a bump that missed the engine bars?)
the centre stand only, on the LHS (maybe the bars have more clearance on the LHS)

Which suggests (on a standard bike) the engine bars allow about the same lean angle as the centre stand. My research in these matters is purely in the interests of science you understand. ;)

A 17" front wheel would drop the front corner of the engine bars a fair bit closer to the ground, but wouldn't affect the centre stand as much.
