GS-911 bought and tried by non-expert

I have thought about getting a GS-911 for a few years now, but have been wary because of cost, and concern if I would be able to use it with my iPhone. There is a lot out there about the GS-911 and the Motoscan App, none of which seemed straightforward to me as a non-techie. I thought I should record for anyone in a similar situation, I bought one and set it up following the instructions and then used my iPhone to calibrate a new fuel strip today. It took a couple of attempts, but the device is easy to set up and worked well, even if I am not sure how!
 
the other tool - motoscan - only supports android - and you also need to buy a decent bluetooth OBD2 adapter that communicates using the correct protocols - many budget "car" ones don't behave - he reccos his own UniCarScan 2100 https://www.wgsoft.de/shop/obd-2-komplettsysteme/unicarscan/185/unicarscan-ucsi-2100-diagnoseadapter

in USE the GS911 (red wifi or later) now has more functionality for doing deeper level stuff and comes with everything you need - basic stuff is supported via android or apple - with windows doing the real stuff with a wifi connection back to base and using USB connection to the bike

all old fossils need the round pin adapter back to the 1999 std OBD2 socket most diagnostic tools have - unless u got the older GS911 which then needs an adapter the other way around for any 2016 or later BM bike
 
The GS911 is almost an essential tool if you plan to keep the bike and/or stick with BMW.
Personally, I find the whole GUI a mess. I always get to where I need and get things done - eventually. But blimey. It's a real buggers muddle piece of software. All said, I wouldn't do without it. Maybe others think differently, but considering it's not something we use daily, monthly?! I think it could be much better!

I’m surprised 911 has a bad interface.
I never used it, but I use Motoscan - that has a fairly crap user experience to be fair… but, hey, it’s cheap and does what it says on the tin.

I expected 911 to be better.

It's my view. Maybe others think it's fine. But to me it could be a lot better.
As said, I never fail to do what I need with it. Just think it's not very intuitive, even the opposite! Maybe it's the terminology used, which I'm guessing is taken directly from BMW?
Don't get me wrong. I'm still keeping it! It's really useful. Could be a little slightly though, for the money...

the old yellow devices (and the red ones) can run an old world interface I preferred. But any Red wifi one should be operated off the current edition that adds lots of far higher level features that motoscan can't do. To which they recently added idiot help info.

the main disadvantage of motoscan is there is no one scan and clear all the crap and lies you'll find across every module on the bike - in itself wasn't a big deal on old bikes where you could go in and out of all modules in a few seconds - but these days checking across 13 different modules of unreliable gibberish is just a time waste

on the vast majority of vehicles (cars and bikes) out there, they have stored so much drivel from past low volt / fiddling finger episodes - nearly always the first step should be to read and instantly delete years of utter rot - then operate the vehicle for 10 mins and rescan so you have a real list of lies it thinks are confusing it...

Good point. In my case, I'm using red, WiFi GS911. Though I never have much luck using it via WiFi and inevitably use the cable. Using a relatively recent version of software, but not updated this year because all the updates just seem to add things for the new bikes.

I'm using a whole range of different software daily (various CAD software, various slicers, various coding compilers etc). Between them all I can't help feeling entropy is beginning to win out!
