Just got an email this morning advising of new functionality with the Hex Code GS-911 diagnostic unit as follows:

Quote:
"Seeing as the next three months are pretty clearly mapped, I will lay out the roadmap...

The next update will be another Beta version that should see public release in February (2009). This Beta will include:

* Resetting of Service Reminders
* Resetting of Brake Pad Wear indicator (K1200GT)
* Idle Actuator Calibration (required for all R-Series 1200 models)
* ABSN full functionality (All single cylinder F650GS/Dakar/CS and C1 models)
* A completely new User Interface
* Some bug fixes

Following very soon on it's heals, will be another Beta, that will include:

* Complete BMSC Service & Maintenance functionality (various adaptation resets and functional tests) These cover the BMW C1 as well as all F650 single cylinder single spark models.
* Complete BMSC2 Service & Maintenance functionality (various adaptation resets and functional tests) These cover all F650 and G650 single cylinder twin spark models.
* Basic support for the G450X
* Locking of the Idle Actuators for Synchronizing the R1200
* And possibly the MA2.4 Service & Maintenance functionality (all
R1150 and non-CAN K1200 and R1200C and R1200CL)

This Beta will become the official next Release version..." :thumb2

Well done Hex Code! I just wish Garmin were as interested and proactive on product development! :mmmm

I was going to purchase last year to cover my 12GSA, but glad I held off having also purchased a 650GS (single '07) and aG450X since. So reading the info posted above, the Beta (later version) is what I need to be obtaining to cover the three bikes.

Found a little explanation/promo vid on youtube from Hexcode:-

Love mine to bits. Suitable phone is a Sony Ericsson W810i. :thumb2
Thanks for the advice on a sutable phone but out of shear habit I'm hoping to find a Nokia, prefrably cheap, small and with good battery life... does such a thing exist?

You'll have no problem using this phone if you can't find a Nokia. My first non-Nokia phone and I prefer it - very similar to use.

The firmware is updatable by intention by Hex, as they include more models or functionality they rleease new software. You just down load the new software and you instantly have the new models or functions.

Coming soon, I believe, is reset of idle actuators on R1200x machines, and read and reset of service mileages. They will also be releasing a new version to cover the K1300.

If you buy now, you just need to download and install a later update.

Some very interesting developments :thumb2

I've seen a lot of sub-notebook sized laptops lately (Netbooks) for very cheap money. The Advent one (4211c) at £274 has 3 USB ports and runs XP with Wi-Fi and a long battery life. The more expensive Samsung NC10 has Bluetooth.

Anybody know if they will work with the GS-911 ?

Could be a handy travelling companion if capable of running mapsource also ?

Yes ......... the GS911 comes with a USB connector as standard (with cable). The GS911 with Bluetooth is an option (with cost).

Pity they didn't call it a GS999 - another side effect of the lost empire no doubt. :D

I use an Asus EEEPC 9000 laptop to run my GS911.
Works fine on the Windows XP model.

This tiny notebook weighs less than a kilo and fits easily in my tankbag (Kamsa) with room to spare.
With wifi access I can keep in touch with emails (and forums) and search/book hotels on the road and also surf for useful info.

No need to worry about vibration damaging the laptop as the hard drive is solid state :D
