I have a GS-911 diagnostics tool but when I last came to use it I got a timeout error on any engine diagnostics (but ABS works)

I see this when I test device (from a Blackberry)

<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/940HESjeV67UPOzkXxZpXtX2zffIWRUEt_GSelHwsCs?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_MSwGZhSv6iI/TAOhuZNOeaI/AAAAAAAACdc/N8moiegVrN0/s144/007.JPG" /></a>

I'm guessing the k-line 1 status stuck low is signficant but don't understand what it means.

and get an error like this when I try to read any engine information

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Log onto the GS911 website and ask their technical advice line.

It appears that the only two people who support the GS911 have spent several months on a tour of Africa but are back now so maybe we'll get some support.

I don't care how special you are, you wouldn't have got much support over the last few months :augie

Changing the subject entirely, based on a Mr Steptoe recommendation I was looking for 20W/50 Semi Synthetic oil and found this on eBay which appears to be a bit of a bargain doesn't it?

Have you seen this thread - http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=232002

In that one, the OP had a frazzled ABS system, but there are some pointers about unplugging the ABS unit and then being able to talk to the ECU. If that's the case for you, you have a chance of working out if the problem is with an ABS unit that's possibly on the way out, or the ECU.

Thanks Mr Womble, I did see that, I've spent hours on Google, here and AdvRider trying to find a solution :augie

I've had a reply on the Google forum now and the GS-911 chap thinks it's a short on the bike.

He says:

hi John,

this communication line is stuck low... this typically is due to a wring
short in your bike's harness. To be sure it is not the GS-911 device
itself, unplug it from the bike and power it through USB. Now use either
your BB or PC software and do a "test device" if you now DON'T see the
"stuck low" message, then you know it is your wiring harness that has a
short...

the second message is just a result of no communication... as your comms
line is shorted, no messages can be sent or received, and hence you get
a timeout...

best,
Stephan

Well six weeks ago there was a fault in their beta programme and had to send them data from a selection of the bikes i had in, and that enabled them to correct and change it :thumb

Damn, I should have known I wouldn't win this one :augie

I hooked the GS911 to the PC without connecting it to the bike and didn't get the stuck low error. So it looks like I have a short on the bike somewhere.

Does anyone know where the wires run from the diagnostics plug?

You must be very, very special, I'm still waiting :(

Great product but if this is how they normally support it (except for special people :augie ) then I'm very unimpressed with their support :nenau

I take that back, their support is very good, they thought my problem was resolved, now they realise I still have a problem they've been in constant communication :thumb2

I don't suppose there's anyone around Melton Mowbray with a GS-911 I could plug into my bike to eliminate (or confirm!) the bike as the problem is there?
