I want to add some bars and spotlights to my 04 1200GS to improve lighting at night and being seen by day. I think fog lights are better than spots?
Can they be wired in to the bikes wiring or will the be needing to just go straight off the battery?
what make bars and lights are available?
thanks for any help.

hello mate,

ive got the sw motech upper and lower bars, look like the cars in the GSA
they come with fittings in theb upper bars to attach thier own brand spots.
ive drilled a large hole into the plate that is on it and attached some piaa 1100x spots that are co9nnected to the battery but have another lead of the switch tapped into the green/blue lead of the diagnostic plug so that they are switched to the ignition.

alternativley try a migsel mount from migsel.com
ace bits of kit!
also look at the halfords spot lights they d. nice and cheap and can also get a wiring kit with inline fuses etc to make things a little easier!

thanks jon

i like the idea of the upper and lower bars giving the adventure 'look' as well as being good protection.
incidentally I just oredered some phillpis extreme H7 bulbs as recommended in RIDE magazine and expect to get much better results from those: both being seen and for at night!
iwas thinking of fog lights as running lights rather than spots as I dont want to offend oncoming traffic as i want them on all the time. Do you think having them on full time with the dipped beam is OTT?

Any other ideas for improving the look? I wish i could afford wire wheels!!

cheers

rick

the way ive got mine set up is so that they dont dazzle oncoming drivers but make you stand out alot more and light the road more to the side and in front of the bike. they're also way brighter than the standard headlight, much needed on the unlit back roads that comprise most of my commute!

if you just wanted running lights, i was in halfords the other day and they do a nice LED strip that can go on both sides of the bike, only £25!
if i didnt have the spots, id be tempted!

also look at some bikvis bullets, little LED lights that you can put anywhere on the bike to make you stand out more, there was a thread on them in the GSmods section but cant be arsed to find it!

theres loads of different lights and bars out there so have a look around, twistedthrottle.com do a good selection adn they're pretty cheap to boot!

I have a Mig light bar taken off my 05 bike, it does not fit the 09 bikes.
PM me if you want it cheap-ish:augie
Was thinking of putting it in the For Sales and wanted but not got around to it yet, your post just kicked the single grey cell into go mode.

Hepco & Becker engine and tank guards fitted with Hella FF50 foglights. Lights wired into their own relay so they come on with dipped beam. i.e. only when bike is running.
