GS Event Norway Sept 2007

Don't they know its Princetown, bet they picked this date just to be awkward;)

It could be a way to tell you if they want you to come or not?:D
;) No, I'm joking. I'm sure you all are wery welcome!

Let me know if any from this site are going and I'll see if I can meet you.
I'm not going to be at the meeting with my little belted baby, but perhaps I'm in the area? I live ca.3 hour from that forest.

Keep you eyes open for the relatives for the guy on the right at the pic.
Many of them are living at Finnskogen in Hedmark, and not at a farm, like this elk/moose in Sweden.

:) Liv.

ELG = elk/moose.

From their site ...

What would be the best way to get there from the UK or Ireland

From England you can take the ferry from Newcastle to Bergen (N) or Gotheborg (S). From Bergen there are several breathtaking roads from west to east in Norway. Road 7 over Hardangervidda is very nice. Also road 55 over Sognefjellet is a good GS road. Road 50, Hemsedal is nice. Road E16 is OK to Leira south of Fagernes. After that, drive road 33 to Gjøvik / Minnesund and road 177 to Vormsund. Then road 20 to Kongsvinger.

Ahhhh...a week spent on the Hardangervidda (spl?) plateau...fantastic. Great walking, great roads (for Norway  ) and cloud berries :thumb .

If you're not scared of a drop of rain then Norway is just genius. Been thinking of a trip there next year and this might be the ticket. Either via Newcastle/Bergen or across Denmark and up through Sweden (and then back via Bergen).

Anyone thinking of going? By September you might want to be renting a cabin/hytte...and the place aint cheap but great landscape.

I was thinking of travelling earlier in the year but would be interested if there are any Tossers that fancy making up a group...what ever time of the year.

We are going over, we will catch the ferry from Harwich to Esjberg in DK then either hop across the Devil island into Sweden or head up via the Ring Fjord to Hirtshals and straight into Norway - I prefer this route as I like the ride but the bridges are spectacular across DK if it is misty. Back will be down through Sweden probably.

EDIT - We will be camping, I live with a Viking!

Ovenpaa,

I'll give you a shout when it gets closer to the time and see if I can hook up with ya...I rather like DK too and always find drivers to be quite chilled. Only ever driven in northern Europe so looking forward to doing it on two wheels.

I can make you a nice route from Stavanger/Bergen to Oslo, if you like!
But to see the goodies and to get time to ride all the funny roads I recommend you to spend one night between Stavanger/Bergen and Oslo/Kongsvinger/the GS-camp.:)

...but if you want to ride the boring route, that's OK by me!;)
The beer are cheaper in Denmark, so you have something on the bright side...

:P Liv.

Just saw this message! - Yes give me a shout closer to the date, I will have my wife on the back as official translator and token Viking and with her and a route from Liv it could be fun. :thumb

I can make a route from Stavanger/Bergen/Haugesund to Oslo/Kongsvinger if you like! :bounce1
Tell me if you want a fast one, or if you want to see/ride fun roads and enjoy the nature - and spend one night between Stavanger and Oslo.

I don't know any good route from Esbjerg DK to Oslo - I don't think there are any good route! The nature are NOT simular to Norway in Denmark.
Keep in mind a part of the road are closed in Sweden; there was a landslide in December and nobody know when the road are going to be OK.
And I read in the newspaper the other day the big&new bridge from Denmark to Sweden are not OK, but not closed.
Hopefully the road in Sweden and the big bridge are OK in September.

A route and one night Stavanger-Oslo, then?

:) Liv.

Hi Liv,

We will be coming from Esbjerg to Hirtshals because we like Denmark :) I always like riding the road up the west coast of Jutland, it brings back many happy memories, anyway that probably means the ferry into Oslo (I just hate driving in Oslo) Also I need to check ferry times at some point, but a nice route from Oslo to Kongsvinger would be good, however depending on time of day it may have to be a direct one instead if a twisty one!

Are you going to the event? What part of NO are you in?

Cheers

Me? A GS event for real men? No, I think me and my belted baby are going to stay on the tarmac...:o That event are not perfect for a sissy like me...

I live so close to Oslo so I can throw a stone to Oslo!
If you find where Rv.4, Rv.22 and E6 meets, then you are wery close! :bounce1

You don't have to ride in Oslo if you are riding from someplace south in Sweden to Kongsvinger!
And if I remember correctly there are a ferry from Hirtshals to Sweden - if there are I can make a route from Sweden to Kongsvinger and NOT ride in Oslo.

It's not fun riding in Oslo for tourists; I don't like it myselfes!
I can help you make a route from the ferry in Oslo to Kongsvinger.
For the fun&narrow gravel roads from Kongsvinger to the meeting you better ask the gravel road experts in the area. Ask Oscar Egeberg; I would be suprised if he does not know a fun road for you!

And let me add;
the mosquitoes are hungry in that area! Let's hope the mosquito season are over in September... :eek

:) Liv.

I believe Stena Line sails from Fredrikshavn DK to Oslo N,
and from Fredrikshavn DK to Gøteborg SE,
and from Grenå DK to Varberg SE.
If you hate riding in Oslo perhaps Fredrikshavn-Gøteborg are the best, and then ride relaxing (and a little boring) roads on the countryside to Kongsvinger? (Look out for the moose! And there are one or two wolfes in that area too! Great!!)
The most bendy road in Sweden are on that route, if you like. It's between Bengtsfors and Håverud, only 1 or 2 kilometres in a forest. I have been there - it's not that spesial.
But Håverud are really nice! It's an aqueduct; train+road+river! And good pizza. And the hostel are nice.
There are a campsite too; I had a glimpse of it when I passed it, riding my bike.

:) Liv.
