I just picked up a 2000 Dakar. The guy I bought it from tells me it's a special one because it has F 650 gs GD Dakar on the log book.

He said the Gd's had some extra mods over the standard Dakar, He mentioned something about a bigger air intake and what I took to mean a slipper clutch of some sort, plus some other enhancements. :nenau

Is there something in this or was he 'as I suspect talking out of his hat' :mmmm

There is also a Scottoiler fitted just next to the preload adjuster. I'm wondering if he has got the use of this confused a little. It seems to be unused, no evidence of ever having been filled with oil.

What have you got on your log book?

GD is "Granada-Dakar" see here:

It was this route in 1999, the year your bike was on the assembly line. Later became known as Paris-Dakar. Your bike isn't special sorry.

Cheers guys, Thought as much :thumb2

The guy said it'd see off the standard GS 'it doesn't'. In fact I don't believe it's seen a BMW computer since it's 600 mile service 26000mls ago, so thats one of the first things I'll need to get sorted.
Apart form that and the fact it's been resprayed has moped mirrors (great view of my armpits on the 90 mile run up the M4 last night ) fitted, slow puncture in the front, a rusty chain and been out side for a few months. It ain't a bad bike.

Looking forward to getting it on the trails and in the odd river or two :augie
