Three bars on the fuel readout, no idiot light and the engine stopped.

A half mile push and 30.5 litres into the adventure tank later I knew that I'd run out of gas. My fuel system needs serious help, it seems.

I'm an idiot and not to be trusted to take apart anything non electrical (my idiocy stops when I have to earn a living).

Is there anything easy that I can do to calibrate the fuel level indicator? I'd be scared to fiddle around inside the tank.

Thanks in advance for your help. The dunce.

Have you had it off lately? the tank I mean. Coz if you have to maybe change the fuel filter its possible to get the floater caught so it won't go fully down. Happened to me once but read full all the time...

The float could well be sticking somewhere inside the tank. This happened to me after changing the fuel filter. I had to strip it all down again and bend the floaty bit a little and then put it back together. Fortunately it worked the second time but its purely trial and error. Who's bright idea was it to put the filter inside the tank??

Has your bike been serviced recently? as this could well be the cause. I'm never changing my fuel filter again and I'd be surprised if many dealers actually do it as its such a bollocking job with lots of potential to cause problems.

Thanks for the replies.

I do use the trip counter but it's a bit annoying that the fuel light doesn't work on a 9 grand bike. It used to work on my Vespa ferchrissakes.

I'll investigate the fuel filter, the bike's due its annual service soon so this may be it.

Its apparently a common mod to remove the filter from in the tank and fit a nice simple easy to replace one outside the tank......should be a bit of info revealed bya search here.
