Hello,
as You can see I'm a newbee, and, moreover, I'm Italian..., no, no, ...don't think that way :D, I mean, ...I learnt english by myself (because of my job) so, please, be patient.
I'm just considering to swich from my F650GS to a 1150GS, maybe used, so while I was looking for info, I found this "WONDERFUL" website/forum.
I tried to "search" in the forum but, since I don't know some technical words, and my dictionary didn't help at all, here I am to do some questions:
I heard that the "transmission system" (how do you name it?, I mean the "arm" instead of the chain), induce a sort of "strange" behaviour of the bike, due to the rotating torque perpendicular to the direction of the bike. Is this true? If yes, is this something You can get use/rid of it or simply You must live with it? Is it any dangerous in turns etc.?

Ok, it's all for now so, at least, could someone tell me which terms I have to search for this topic? Thanks a lot in advance :thumb

Dfulgosi,

There is a stange behaviour for the R1150GS cealled 'Torque Reaction'. If you sit on the bike, engine on, in neutral, feet on ground, then quickly turn the throttle on and off, the bike will want to rotate to your right.

To be honest, I owned my bike for three months before I noticed it. It is just a small idiosyncracy and nothing to worry about.

Lee

Thank You very much Lee, ...the green light I was looking for...

Go for it. You will not look back. Other than the above little idiosyncracy, there is nothing else to really think about. Years ago on a shaft drive bike it was a bit dodgy changing up or down on a wet bend but now it is fine. What other bike can you ride off road (if you're brave), race round a race track and then ride across Europe:beerjug:
Happy hunting, oh and how about arranging a hot sunny GS weekend in Italy???just a thought/dream

Hmmmm. Don't think I'd ever advocate changing gear in a bend, wet or otherwise......

Mike:)

I rather like the way the motor twists the bike when you blip it at the lights. And it gives the journo's something to fill an empty paragraph with

..that would be the paragraph after 'of course you have to put up with BMW's stupid indicator switch arrangement'....

...of course, count on me for the organizzation! I know some very nice roads..., all of them ending in some very beautiful sea-places!:beerjug:

Timmy

:beerjug:

...officially, 4 my wife, not yet..., but, as I know myself enough..., YES!!!
I'm only waiting for somebody who will buy my F650GS (already posted on some second-hand newspaper/websites).
Oh, just because we're talking about it, anybody here has any experience in "second-hand" GS coming from "BMW-employers"? On the official BMW italian website, at least 70% of the used bikes are of that type and the average price is about 11.000,00 €. for a 2002 GS while in Germany the choice is bigger and the average price is 10.500,00 €. for an Adventure so, since I bought also my last car in Germany (M3) and I found the same difference, I think I'll have a deeper look over there.
Any suggestion?

In August...

...we'll be down in Verona (not too far from you?) as part of a World of BMW tour that includes the Dolomites. So, if you haven't bought your GS by then and fancy poking around an 1150 Adventure (German import to UK) let me know and we could meet up.
But don't wait - get it NOW and ride it all summer 'til yer arse drops off!
Ciao!

riding down your way at the begining of june for the moto gp at mugello. get the adventure the wife will understand when she see's the grin on your face when you ride it!!:shoot:

Go for a German bike!

Here in IRELAND we have a very small bike market. To
find a good second-hand GS we have to look over seas.
My current bike I got it off the web in Germany
http://www.bmw-motorrad.de/de/de/index.html click on
“Gebrauchte Motorrader” . Between my friends and I we must have
Imported about 12 bikes and every one of them was as good as the garage
Claimed, with BMW warranty also.

REGARDS
MIKE

Ciao Dracula, complimenti per l'italiano e grazie del "benvenuto" ;-)

I feel myself closer and closer to the GS..., I'm a little confused only concerning the choice between GS and GSA, well, not really 'couse I WANT the Adventure but, because of my wife, she use to suffer minor backache, so I don't know actually if the Adv would be much more uncomfortable vs. the GS, also keeping in mind that we don't use to do very long trips, our standard is around 200 Km., just to reach the sea...
