Hi Folks
I use one of Mark Hooton's extended rear racks ( + a waterproof bag) along with vario panniers for touring on my GS, its a really good set up which I'm very happy with.Unfortunatley, when fully loaded, the bike is very awkward to heave onto the centre stand without the rear carrier to grab hold of to help. The obvious solution is a Wunderlich liftng handle, BUT,£75, FFS!,doe's anyone know of a more sensibly priced option?
Cheers
Craig

I would use a universal fitting Highway peg.. would work in exactly the same
way as far as i can see and you would get two of them for a lot less money

here is an idea of pricing albeit on a US site but as you can see
at 20 dollars a pair... a much cheaper solution.

Some people tie a bit of webbing across for a handle too.

I reckon that as Mr Hooton's kit is causing yer problem, he ought to get busy designing the solution :D

Come on Mark - another bit of kit for your ever growing emporium :thumb

I don't use the luggage rack to lift my GSA onto the main stand - I get hold of the frame tube just above/ahead of the pillion footpeg with my right hand and steady the bars with my left. Then put my right foot on the stand and simultaneously tread down on the stand extension while lifting the bike up/back with my right hand.

Ditto as above and never had any problems getting my GSA with full load onto centre stand!!

However I do support the idea that Mark Hooton shud design/produce a lifting handle and undercut Wunderlich which is very expensive at 75 quid

£75?........

Gym membership for a month, £35.....get those biceps built up you bloody weakling! :hide

just put all my weight on the stand and that usually does it, but then I'm a fat bastard.:augie

yeah same here i have never used my luggage rack to lift the bike, i use the same method using just above the pillion foot rest an pushing down on the center stand

The bikes weight isn't a problem, its the lack of somewhere to grab hold of when the panniers are fitted.
But,hey ho.. keep 'em comming chaps :)

How would you manage if you dropped it, god forbid that should ever happen as its somewhat expensive...??????

Getting it up onto the centre stand

I asked a similar question on here just after I got my 2004 1200. I never had any problem with the old 1150 GSA (even though that was considerably heavier). The early 1200s apparently have a difficult centre stand. The advice I got was "all your weight down on the centre stand lever (right foot) and just roll it backwards (don't try to pull up). And practice". It is relatively easy now, although still not as easy as the 1150 GSA was!
Like a lot of things, you have to attack it with confidence. Same goes for my offroad riding (I don't mean on a GS - I'm not bonkers), but I've never got that confident, so I still fall off a lot. When I'm trying to catch up with someone or I forget to worry, I'm much better

Yes. Leave it on the side stand. What's wrong with that? I rarely use my centre stand and never understood the obsession with them. After all, some bike don't even come with them i.e. HP2 Enduro.

I will add that I have no problem getting my GSA on centre stand and I am only 5'6" and weigh 9 stone, so it's definitely not brawn needed...but.... I have had a few scary moments taking it OFF the centre stand... need to get a better technique that works for me for that!
