GS Reliable?

Well Sue’s bike has gone to a good home, over 44000 miles and never missed a beat. Whatever your experience or opinion on quality or reliability it just did the job.
Had 3 GS, first was 1150GSA did have a few problems must admit but in nearly 60000 in 5 years never let me down. My current 1200GS has 40000+ and apart from a fuel strip early in its life and the latest hub recall nothing.
All 3 have proved reliable and sturdy and more than up to the job. Whether autobahn bashing over to Munich, mud plugging through almost non-existent forest roads in Croatia (dodging the minefields of course). A trundle down a few French D roads to the Med or getting baked at 40+deg in Turkey not a problem, scooting along Norwegian gravel roads or navigating missing bits of road in Albania easy.
Could load it up like a truck then ask it to tackle a few alpine passes. Never a problem and a quick jet wash and polish and came up like new. One heated grip and a few tyres plus servicing was all her 1200 needed, still had same pads front and rear.
Were a few tears when it was ridden away. Lots of memories attached to it.

Sues new bike due next week so a mini adventures on the cards.

Need to make sure I can keep up….

I think you can be unlucky but in general, I have had good running from my GS's...

Very smooth rider, well trained, not by me I may add. If I follow her she cracks on but rarely see her brake lights on, no matter how twisty the roads. She's no racer but can certainly cover the ground when needed.

I have had 4 1200GSs, they have had their niggles but BMW have always sorted them out under warranty or been fair with any out of warranty claims.

I have done approximately 1,000 miles per month since 2005 on my GSs and will buy another unless one of the other manufacturers comes up with a better bike - to date none of them have.

My FD was rebuilt at 50K, coils failed around 40K and frame paint was crap but the bike has never let me down.
Would I have another? Yes

2010 gs. 47k now from new. 1 recovery with clutch failure. Had extended warranty replace slave, master and apparently clutch. They also found swingarm bearing needed replacement. All under ext warranty. Another? Defo yes! Loaded it up and never thought I wouldnt get home. But not a WC unless dealer warranty...
