GS Trophy date change

The BMW GS Trophy will now be an integral part of the Touratech Travel Event this year. 4-6th June

It's going to be run on the Sunday, so there's still the chance to try out our sampler on the Saturday just to get your eye in, then if you've registered for the Trophy, to go for it on the Sunday. Just don't have too much liquid fun on the Saturday night!

I think the format of the Trophy is changing too. A 2 hour session, much cheaper and use the world of BMW bikes.

Get to join in the Touratech Travel Event at the same time, so you won't be coming down just for a 2 hour ride, but can make a very pleasant and entertaining weekend of it.

Oh and you can still have the off road sampler on the Saturday just to recce parts of the course (I think).

UK GS Trophy qualifying event rescheduled for June 5-6 weekend
The first ever GS Trophy UK Qualifying event is to join with the Touratech Travel Event to offer a two-day adventure motorcycling experience in the glorious surroundings of South Wales, close to the Brecon Beacons.

The Qualifier is a unique sporting challenge with the three top amateur riders earning their place to represent the UK in the 2010 International GS Trophy Event taking place from 13/21 November in South Africa, Swaziland and Mozambique. Once there, they will compete on new F 800 GS bikes against BMW riders from all over the world in a series of off-road competitions and challenges, much like the famed Camel Trophy competition that defined the spirit of adventure in the 1980s and 1990s. To ensure that as many GS owners as possible have the chance to enter this qualifying round, BMW Motorrad is making a fleet of off-road bikes available for competitors to ride in the event. For just £50 any GS owner will be able to enter the GS Trophy and hire a BMW bike for the competition.

All entrants will be divided into four groups, with each group competing in separate heats taking place throughout the day of Saturday 5 June, at the Walters Arena, Glyn-Neath, the home of BMW Off Road Skills.

The simple two hour test will start with a briefing where instructors will offer riding hints and tips. Then each competitor will negotiate a specially designed off-road course under the watchful eye of seven-times Dakar competitor, Simon Pavey, BMW Off Road Skills Chief Instructor, and his team of judges.

The top five riders in each heat will then qualify for a final, tougher, riding test on Sunday 6 June, all riding F 800 GS bikes. The final three competitors, judged to be the best to represent their country at the GS Trophy Final, will then be chosen.
