Yo your "infinite Wisdomnesses". I have a GS with a low seat, luvs it I does but the tank is small and the gauge thinks its smaller. Have read lost of articules about putting a GSA tank on a GS. Feck that says I. Surely it must be possible to put the GS seats on the GSA in which case Williams would get more of my dosh. Any one got any wisdoms for me ?

The seats from a GS fit straight on to a GSA with no alterations required at all (we are talking 1200 here I take it?:nenau).

Don't know what figures your looking at to change but the cost of fitting a GSA tank to a GS would be pretty significant!

we are indeed, would you do me a favour and call around here and tell my Missus that I need Really NEED a GSA immediately if not sooner and that the depreciation on my GS (1200!) is reasonable ?

Thanks for that when will you be round, is it 2 sugars or one, and would you like a wee bite to eat at all?

Ahh well now if a little nibble is on the table I'll be round in an hour! Two sugars please with a little milk. :thumb

Of course to get the true net cost of changing you have to ignore anything on the new bike which was not on your old so deduct the cost of ESA, crash bars, large screen etc when doing the sums :augie

...........sounds as though your problem is with the missus, not the GS's tank :D:D

Come over to Rochdale and show her this, should do the trick

Around 680.00 plus VAT?

Anyone got a second hand tank for sale?

If you can fit comfortably, just bite the bullet and buy the GSA.

The sheer profusion of "Oh **** I've just dropped it" protective bits should do more than offset the cost of applying the same to a GS.

Does anyone know where I can get one of these: "O-ring – 16-141-183-543 £1.02 + vat" from the post above please?

Can I get one from any bike shop? If so, what size is the o-ring? what should I ask for in a non-BMW bike dealer?

Thanks for advice

After having an 1150 gsa i thought long and hard when i swapped.
Should it be 1200gs or gsa.
In the end i could see several advantages to the gs over the gsa.
The only advantage for the gsa was the fuel tank and if you put it into perspective,it would mean that on a 600ml day, which is a big day,you would have to stop to refuel, 2x on the gsa, 3x on the gs.
So the gsa would save you 10mins per day,and most people need a stop after 200ml anyway.
If you are planning to do trips were fuel is less frequent then the gsa makes sense otherwise IMHO it's a no brainer.

Remember that the GSA will be maybe 2-4 cm's taller and 20kg heavier when dry. Add maybe another 10kg when fully fuelled.

If you already have a low seat on the GS, the GSA will feel a lot taller, even with a low seat. You might want to think about lower shocks if you go that route which second hand will cost you around £500.

I had a GSA (1150 though) with a low seat and low shocks and I found it tough to handle (I'm 5' 8").

Depends how you are using the bike. I do 1,500 miles a month commuting and find the GSA's large tank fine with a 300 - 350 mile range. Fill ups tend to be every ~6 days, and I carry a 1 litre in reserve as have got caught out pushing the range too far before :blast. Note to self: Less haste more speed.

Can't be arsed with more regular fuel stops and glad I have the GSA over the pissy tank in the GS givng a ~180 - 210 mile range as I'd be filling up every 2.5 days.

So I guess thats commuting for you, compared to Sunday leisure riding.

Dont forget that the GSA is taller than the GS due so if you are "just about there" with a low seat on a GS, then a GSA is gonna be a handful.

Windy,
If you only have to fill your gsa up every 6days compared to every 2.5 days for a gs that means your bike's got a 48ltr tank:D
