Hi - this is a strange one. I have ventured onto the Ridgeway recently on the 1200 - nothing too silly but nevertheless I've stood on the pegs over 20 miles or so about 3 times now.

Yesterday I noticed that the front seat cover had split - at the lowest point in it's frame on both sides!

I popped into Cooper Reading where Matt took one look and said "Do you normally wear GS1's?" (I had popped into Reading from the office nearby and so was wearing regular shoes). I do.

Turns out that he has had one other customer with the same problem and the same boots and his theory is that the boot may be grinding through the seat cover when standing on the pegs.

I am sure Cooper will sort out the seat through warranty but I'm not sure what happens after that. Anyone else had the same experience or similar?

Yep - My Sidi SRS boots also wore through the seat in exactly the same place. Caused by standing on the pegs when offroading. A bit of a design problem with the seat in my opinion - there's no way that it should be susceptable to wear like that when used for the purpose its designed for using standard sort of equipment.

I had mine changed under warranty by Vines quite a while ago. I considered covering that lower area with something (duct tape!) on the new seat but never quite got round to it. I'm sure the new one will wear as well.

Every single 1200GS on the BMW off-road course has the seat completely worn away in exactly the same place.
