Hi all :beerjug:
I've just swap the original GS1150 rear shock absorver by the Adventure one.
The first change is that the adv shock is larger witch means that the bike is now some centimeters taller.
Does anybody have information of any others diferent features and results?
Any experience with that mod?

Thanks for your replies :)

Other than the stands, not much, although the internal drive shaft is slightly longer on an ADV to give the same (or more) spline engagement with the additional travel, I have heard of this causing a "resonant" noise but nothing detrimental.

Also want to do this mod, to get more ground clearance.

If you try to fail, and succeed, which have you done?

Thanks for your reply Welshman :)
As I understand your opinion is that the ADV shock absorver is a good choice.
Do you know the main diferences between the gs shock and the ADV one?
(Quality, technical, etc)

Renato

Isn't this going to make your bike higher at the back than the front? Do you anticipate this causing handling problems?

Can a longer shock be fitted at the front, or do the forks not have any extra travel?

I'm asking because I'm idly pondering doing the same to my 1200.

Cheers :)

The stock GS shock was a Showa unit and not a particularly good one. The ADV is a WP unit I think and far superior in terms of quality and performance.

The only difference between a rut and a grave......... is in their dimensions

It's a Showa as well.

Hi all

Well, the adv shock i've just mounted is a showa as well and looks more robust than the gs one. The difference between them is only 2 cm larger wich result in a diference in travel of about 3-4 cm (at weel).
This small diference sould not affect the bike handkling. Although, one good question is if there is any diference in the front shock.....

Let´s wait to see if anybody has more experiences and details

Don't forget to check the brake line for the rear break. I changed the stock 1150GS for Bitubo 1150GS ADV shock, and ended up with a really tight brake line, that eventually failed.

So just keep and eye on the brake line and be prepared to only have front brakes if it goes.

Thanks Guzzler. I will check asap. By the way, what about your experience with the ADV shock? better? same think?

I like the change. The added clearence is really nice. I would bottom out and scrape the belly pan on the stock shocks (actually ripped off the belly pan one day on a dirt road). With the Bitubo Adventure shocks, I haven't had an issue at all with bottoming out.

One thing, I hope you have long legs when you do this. I have a 33 inch (84 cm) inseam and I can no longer flat foot at a stop.

I bought the 1150GS when it first came out. Had no idea that they would do the Adventure a couple years later, and when it came out I was really jealous.

Held out as long as I could waiting for my stock shock to die. When they did, I found a screaming deal on a used set of Bitubo's that were barley used. I really like the Bitubos for how much you and adjust on them. Which was odd, because once I got them dialed in, I haven't had to mess with them at all.

But I think that Bitubo's Adventure shocks might actually be a bit longer than the stock Adventure shocks.

Are you planing on just changing out the rear shock, or both the front and rear? Personally I would recommend doing both as a set.

I've just changing the rear one and I am now trying to find out the advantages. The byke is taller with the adv shock but I can touch the floor without problems. Let's wait for results them I probably look for the front shock. (if there is any diference)

Renas, how do you find your bike now sits on the GS stands? I'm more interested in the centre stand as you can get an extender block for the side stand raising it about an inch from Nippy Normans for about a tenner. I'd also like to try this mod :)

Hi JohnC,
Well the bike stands ok but with the rear wheel touching the floor. With 'normal' GS shock you should have about 1 inch between.
Tell me your email I can send u some pics.
By the way what do you now about the modification?
Don't you think is possible to extend the centre stand as well?
