Hi all,
Before i pur-chase one of the above devices i was wondering.....

Do we have any members who own one of these.
What were your expectations before you bought it
Have these been met .....does it what it says on the can.
Ease of use.
Limitations....what can & more importantly can't be carried out.
Updates available??
Back up & support
Best place to buy from, price etc etc.

Sorry about the essay & many thanks for your assistance

I got one in the group buy a while back and it saved me a breakdown as it picked up that the FPC was on its way out. Took the bike to the main dealer and there equipment failed to pick up the fault(they had to diagnose it the old fashioned way).
More to the point they then checked out my GS911 and were on the phone to purchase one themselves.

Great bit of kit.

Answers to your questions can be found on the hexcode website.

I bought mine a while ago in the group buy as I do my own servicing. It told me my bike was fine, and I believe it. It has also told me that my mates 1200s are also fine. That is cheaper than paying a dealer to tell me my bike is fine every 12 months at £100 per hour labour costs.

How does it pick up a FPC that is 'on the way out'.

If the FPC works then it will show no fault, or are you saying that it can fail
intermittently and throw up a fault code?

I thought the FPC either worked or it didn't?????

A bit more detail on your use of and findings with GS911 would be usefull as I too bought one with group buy.:thumb2

What's the difference between Enthusiast version & professional version?

only 10 bikes can be read with the Enthusiast version. VIN nos. are logged by the device.

what i'm not clear about is what happens when it's used the 10. wondering if you can delete one and add another, but i think not.
seems you need to upgrade to Pro version for $200 odd :(

When I hooked up the bike to check a fault was found.

0167 output stage to electric fuel pump.

So I cleared the fault then started the bike and the fault came straight back.

BMW`s own diagnostics dosn`t pick up that fault.

Now the bike was running perfect as far as I was concerned, but obviously not.

Not quite the full picture .... The difference only comes into play when using the service or maintenance functions i.e. Resetting TPS, idle calibration, resetting service mileage/date etc. Reading and resetting fault codes does not use up any of the 10 VINs that the enthusiast version is limited to. See below, from teh HEXCODE.ZA web site.

GS-911 Professional version.

The only limitation that the Enthusiast version has is that the Service Functionality is limited to 10 motorcycles - this is done using each motorcycles unique VIN. This DOES NOT apply to the pre-2009 "Emergency functionality" (Reading ECU info, reading and clearing Fault codes and real-time values). These, you can run on as many motorcycles as you wish.. without the VIN limitation coming into play at all - We don't want to prevent you from helping your stranded buddy at the roadside...

The Enthusiast/Professional differences only affect the PC/Laptop software, as the Service & Maintenance functionality is added ONLY to the PC/Laptop software (i.e. the Mobile software will remain an "Emergency Diagnostic Tool" with the current reading of ECU information, the reading and clearing of Fault codes and Real-time values) and thus remain status quo ( and if that was not clear enough yet.. There is NO VIN LIMIT on the Emergency functionality, hence you can use it on a gazillion motorcycles... ;-) )

Which contradicts any of my previous posts, where I clearly hadn't read the HEXCODE web site fully :blast:blast:blast

so apart from "Emergency functionality" (their term), it's limited to 10 bikes.

ps. none of the 911s bluetooth to an iphone. in fairness, iphones don't really bluetooth to anything much :(

Would be a doddle to make one of these with a RS232 to bluetooth converter (cost about £10). It's just ascii commands to set and request data.

Finding out the commands would be the tricky part, but I made software that did something very similar for an electronic lock back when I was a teenager.

Yep, that's it.

They define "Emergency functionality" as:
Reading ECU information
Reading Fault Codes
Clearing Fault codes
Reading real-time values

So, on any number of machines, the GS-911 can be used to diagnose issues, and to clear fault codes.

The enthusiast version can be used on 10 machines to set teh mileage to next service, date of next servcie, park the stepper motors, recalibrate idle etc. Once 10 VINs have been used, it would need to be upgraded to teh pro version (for $220 !) before a machine with a new VIN could have these functions performed on it. So, if you think you are not likel;y to own more than 10 different machines, but woul dlike to help your mates out with diagnosis, not servicing, the enthusiast version would be the choice. If you run a aworkshop, or are more altruistioc and want to use these for servicing all your mates bikes, then go pro ...

Smug mugs (:aidan) who bought one early in the development lifecycle can upgrade their softare to the Pro version for $99, before the end of 2009.

That's £144.81 in real money.

Once it's full with 10 vins you can't do any more service resets, park the motors or recalibrate idle on any other bikes except on the bikes you already have the vin numbers recorded.

Got one for almost 2 years. Still uses it a lot :thumb2. Going on long trips the 911 and a mobile is very handy. Used mainly for diagnosis, but it can also be used for throtle alignment. :thumb
