How what bits can I reuse when fitting a GSA screen to my GS?
Also do I need all the bits from BMW or can I use other stuff?
Thanks in advance for any help....

Ok if you have the adventure screen & support bar visit your local dealer who will probbably have all the bits of a parts listing and probably in stock.

I did this and it only cost £10 ish in bits if i remember correctly. I dont thing i reused any bits but kept them as spares.

Fitting it isnt easy

Craig you only need the screen and support bar along with the extra two button screws that hold the support bar to the screen.
I reused all the fittings from my GS , no issues.
You do need the fingers of a gynacologist for some bits, friendly mate to hold in place helps.
Attatch the front of the screen first, then the adjuster bolts at the side.
top tip, strip the plastic gromets off one side until the other side is in place when attatching the side sections.
Ring me if you want me to pop over and help out.:flag

Hi Craig,
I'm no engineer, but I used a length of 13mm alloy tubing for the centre brace.
I bent it to shape using pipe benders, flattened the ends and cut the appropriate size and shaped hole for the adjustable clamps using a dremmel.
I made a spacer for the fastenings using 20mm plastic washers and fastened the cross brace to the screen with P clamps.
It all sounds a bit Heath Robinson, but I first used it when I got my 2009 1200 and have just moved it onto my new 1200 so it's had getting on for 3yrs use.
It looks absolutely fine and performs as good as the oem brace.
The really good news is rather than costing nearly £200 for BMW parts it cost me less than £10.

It aint cheap!

Craig, what you are reading is right - I dropped my GSA and bent the tubular bar and that alone was circa £130-ish! The fittings IMHO `nearly` fit but be careful of the two small rotating brackets at the front - these can only be purchased within a set of fasteners from BMW for around £35+

And yes, its not the easiest thing to fit..........

But well worth it as the extra protection is damn good!

what r u doing on here Mark, you dont have time mate! your supposed to be making my crud catchers !:rob

Mark - have you never thought of making a "pattern" brace yourself.....? I'm sure it would be popular and a good seller.

Anyone make "home made " fasteners?

Or remember what size thread and length you used.

Longer screws and mount the two small screws on the front first, this will help you mount the side adjustment knobs more easily.

I got mine from Motorworks.

I cannot do potatoplop to show the knobs etc.... sure you would know,

Before..... with standard screen removed....

Phone pic afterward with Adventure screen fitted with 50mm adjustment knobs and home made bracket.

That's strange, I didn't need longer adjustment knobs when fitting to my 59 1200 and used the standard knobs when fitting to my 61 1200.

They must come with longer knobs now.
