`Cos I am a clumsy a**ehole and liable to drop all manner of objects on my tank, never mind about when stones get kicked up, I was toying with the idea of purchasing a Bagster Tank cover.

What do you lot reckon? What are the pro`s and cons?

Hi BB,

Im in the same situation, I will probably buy the bagster, eventually. It looks well made and there is no doubting it looks good and will protect the upper surface of the tank. However I have two niggles:

1. I am concerned about grit getting under the lower front edge and scratching the tank??
2. The price!!! 95 squid for a bit of vinyl. I paid £15 for a superb Givi tank bag a few years ago so how can I justify the bagster and then you have to add the tank bag on top.

Seems like a great product but value for money

Any alternatives?

I used Baglux cover and Bag for my Ducati 996. The cover was a reasonable fit, but I still had reservations about grit etc getting underneath and marking the tank.

A friend recommended polishing the tank with Mer, ensuring that the tank was 'spotless' and then polishing it again, this time leaving the Mer to dry to a powder finish. Once dry put the cover on the bike & ride. Itried it for a few days - and it seemed fine. I then repeated the process and toured with it - it was stille fine.

Now the Ducati like GS has no storage space (laughable on a BM, but actually the Ducati had marginally more space) so I thought I'd leave the cover on the tank, and buy a small tank bag. After a summers riding - the result was that the tank was in fantastic condition, and wearing better than the plastic bodywork which was suffering from stone chips.

I can't recomend that you try this, as I may have been lucky, and you could find that it doesn't work for you.

I'm simply sharing my findings. I'd certainly do it again - but that's me making the decision and taking the risk - so if you do try it and it doesn't work out - don't shoot :mcgun the messenger.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

I've had my GSA cover on for nearly 2000 miles now, took it off last week before sending it for a service and the tank is still spotless. :thumb

I would recommend the Bagster tank cover, I have had one fitted to my ADV for the last 16,000 miles. Thought I better remove it last week for a look and the tank was spotless apart from some squashed flies.

I did 40k miles on my old R1100RS with a baglux harness fitted. The tank had no scratches when I part-ex'd it. I would say though that the tank bag I bought (an alpha) was in pretty poor condition after the 40k was up. An Oxford sports tankbag that I used on other bikes prior th the RS is still in use today on my GS with a lot more miles under it's belt.

Thanks for the replys chaps.

Just ordered a Tank cover from Baglux....!
