I've been offered the option on a large GSA petrol tank, which was described as "brand new, never used", but clearly friggin isn't.
It has the worrying look of a repair on one side, near the hole on the inner side of the tank, where all the gubbins etc goes. The tank for the most part looks immaculate, BUT there is what looks and feels like the irregular surface of a non standard weld (?) on the innerside of the tank near where the hole for all the gubbins goes. There is quite a lot of rust on the lip of the tank in the same area and the lip feels like it has been roughly beaten back into shape (especially compared to the other side and my std tank). The tank also has marks from what must be baglux straps, as they are in the same place on both undersides of the tank ? Do the baglux straps mark the tank - does anyone know ?
All signs that it has really been used and abused before.
My question is, is there some way to check that the tank is structurally
sound ? Can a dealer do this ?
My real concern is that the tank was falsely described, so I'd just like to know if there is more to it than meets the eye, as I don't want to fit it - then find out it's f*cked, or the capacity is not as much as it should be.
thanks
Aaron
