maybe it acts like an airfoil and ground effect.. sticking the stand the the bike and giving more grip to the tires.. Or it could just be £30 down the drain as its actually detrimental to the stand??

It doesn’t bother me, its on and it stays, simples.

If its proper BMW, the paint will drop off it or it will dissolve anyway.. so won't cause a problem for long ;)

Either that or the engine will blow up seems like a common thing nowadays

Well i can only hope that whatever ails the 1250 doesn’t happen to my one. I don’t think a bike would ever be quite the same having had a new engine.

I'd not worry about that.. no reason why it would change anything.. the only thing being if they had fixed the issue before giving you a new engine... from what I've seen BMW don't work this way.. just give you more of the same and keep fingers crossed ??

Can’t say ive ever had a problem except my first 2010 gs split the bloody alternator in half. Seized solid it was. Dealer recovered and fixed and delivered bike back to my house. Thank god for the warranty. GSA 2013 never had a problem apart from the blank that covers a vacuum take off on rhs cylinder was missing on delivery. Used an injector rubber blank and that was all in 3 1/2 years of ownership.

its main job is to stop shit and debris flying up on the inside of the bike on to the shock etc. its secondary job is to protect the stand. they only fit one way so can't be fitted wrong

Thanks for the clarification.. but the comment was made rather tongue in cheek ;)

I fitted one to my 2017 GSA in an attempt to reduce the spray and muck flung up by the front wheel from crapping up the rear of the bike. I have just removed it for a clean after about 4000 miles. There is a scour line similar to that found on the crud catcher and the engine belly plate. I conclude therefore that it is preventing similar damage to the underside of the swinging arm.
As to the centre stand crossbar, I’ve always fitted a snap on radiator pipe sleeve covered in black gaffer tape to prevent scouring of the paint. That works too.

Thinking about it now, its not meant to be a crossbar protector although thats a secondary function. As AlanR says more of an underbelly shield which makes sense to me.
