Hi All

Anyon else the proud owner of one of these remarkable bits of sh..err.kit?:D

I got one some time ago as a present, but have serious doubts about its accuracy?

I reset my TBs and it seems ok, but since replacing the chip in the motronic the bike runs rich. I checked the CO with the gunsons and it said 5.0! I can not get it to go below 4.0? But there is a differnce. The bike is running very well and i have lost the 4-5k dip, but I now have some surging.

So, I am concerned it might be lean and reset the CO to where it was.

So after all that waffle, anyne ever checked a Gunsons against a "real" CO meter? I just woindered how they compare?

Thanks.

I used a Gunsons for years on my cars prior to MOT. I always found it to be almost spot on the reading from the testing centre but would add you do need to follow the initial set up for the unit as it does need 'warming' up first.

i had one, it was a piece of shit. it gave wildly varying readings and was completely useless.

i now have a blue point unit which works fine :)

I rechecked the readings it gave me, and I suppose atmospherics may affect it, it was pretty much the same reading as last time.

No matter what I do with this bike I just seem to move the problem around. I'm suspecting the chip may not be ideal for how I ride the bike? It seems to accelerate ok, but is absolute shite at a constant throttle.:(

I maybe selling it anyway, but if not, I need to get it sorted as its a real pain to commute through heavy traffic on. Ho Hum, I miss carbs!:(

did you check the CO before putting in the new chip?

replacing chip in my 1150 did not cause richness, but disconnected/duff lambda did.

Have you reset the tappets?
These need to be set with care, as per the instructions which are on the web somewhere, then check/reset the throttle body's.

Then... have you tried single electrode plugs?????
Usually makes all the difference!!!!

Hi Bill

No, I haven't set these. Not sure when they were last done either? So I probably should do these.

I want to get the bike on a dyno, but need it all set up as best as possible first really.

With the current chip I can move the lumpy running around the rev range. Where the CO pot is set now makes it lumpy at 4-5k. Half turn anti-clockwise makes it surge between 2-3k but removes the 4-5k lumpiness.

My concern is the chip does nothing but fatten up the fuelling throughout the range and the bike cannot be set up to run sweetly at all throttle openings. I can not dial in any sweet settings using the CO pot? But as you point out, there are a lot of variables to consider.

I'll set the tappets and then get the TBs sync'ed professionally as my gauges are shot. I see your local (i'm in Basildon), anyone round here you recommend for working on these bikes?

Best,

Dave.

Have a chat with Lou Crump. He can be a grumpy git but seems to know what he's doing.
