Took myself off to watch the CMRC last race weekend of the season up on Anglesey or Ynys Mon as we call it in Wales. Anyway, I have been trying to get to watch this clubs races all year and this was the last race weekend so off I went.

Well, I reckon racers and their families and friends out-numbered spectators by at least 3:1 and for all those who didn’t go and support the series, you really don’t know what you’ve been missing!

So why is this on a Guzzi thread I hear you all asking! The reason is for me, walking around the paddock, I was like a kid in a sweetshop will all of the gorgeous bikes being raced, but most noticeable for me was the Quirk Vincent sidecar out fit which pretty much blew me away but, for me, the first dy of the weekend saw a pre 1972 Guzzi V7 ridden by Kevin van der Worp winning not one but two races!

The first race saw 2 Guzzis in chasing a TZ750 with the above Guzzi catching and passing the Yamaha and the second Guzzi finishing 3rd but in the second races, the 72 Guzzi ridden and built by Kevin van der Worp was awarded a 5 second penalty for a jump start but by the end of the 7 lap race, the Guzzi pulled out no less than 6.8 seconds over the TZ750. It really made my day!

Roll on tomorrow for all the other end of season races!

Ive been to Trac Mon twice this summer. Its brilliant, you can get all around the spectator points in 15 mins and the view from the hill is superb.

I agree about the spectator ratio, I recon for the no limits trackday series six weeks ago it was 6/8 competitors/ teams to one joe public. Everyone who was cheering on had a dog in the fight, mums dads sisters girlfriends etc

Enjoy tomorrow 👍👍

Was Chris Saltinstall racing his amazingly quick Yellow LeMans last weekend ?

Yes, Chris picked up two 3rd places on Saturday behind Kevin and the TZ750 but had to leave and he missed Sunday’s race. One anomaly is that the two Guzzis are in the same race but different classes as the V7 is pre 1972 and the Le Mans is 1984 (I think). Chris also managed to wear a hole in his exhaust, the side closest to the tarmac in the photo.

To answer Paul G’s question, the other bikes in the race were Formula 750cc, Clubman 251-1300cc, Superbike Originals and Production, so quite a variety of machines including a 350cc Armstrong tandem twin. The top 3 in the class today were the TZ 750 in 1st, the Armstrong 350 in 2nd with the formidable Guzzi V7 in 3rd.

If you love bikes and love the classics, try and get along to a CMRC event near you in 2025. The entry fee for spectators was £10 for one day or £15 for the weekend and that includes unrestricted access to the paddock and the racers all love talking about their bikes!

The Anglesey circuit is probably the most picturesque in the country. We had a great weekend camping in 2013 when the Northwich Thundersprint was staged at the venue for one year only. It's ashame they didn't keep it there.

if the LM is a 3 ..why does the exhaust look like it's off a V11 ? and the rocker covers are later too...
I certainly don’t know, but certain modifications are permitted, but if you pop along to one of next year’s race meeting, you could ask him yourself (y)

It really impresses me the amount of performance and grip that these guys get out of road tyres, Avon’s are the favourite but as these are no longer available, (IIRC), then Continentals are finding favour. Wets are only allowed in a couple of classes, the Superbikes for instance, all other classes use road tyres. Makes you wonder why there are so many fashion victims buying sticky sports tyres for use on the roads.

I've been a few times and it's a bloody marvellous track; my mate and his son were there a few wks ago and had a garage for fettling and such; the classic scene throws up all sorts these days; but like as been said; it's criminally short of spectators.

Post Classic Era 3 change to allow Ducati 916 etc should encourage a few more along - including me. Went to Darley this year, a good day out, some intriguing stuff in the paddock. Donington and Darley in the diary for 2025 & will also try and make Cadwell (not been for a few years so will interested to see how its changed).

You've just reminded me of Paul Lewis, riding the big MG in the Battle of the Twins series years back. He took no prisoners, shit or bust.

IIRC he ended up somewhere on the South coast, running a Harley dealership.
