Guzzi (sorry!) Alternator: where to get?

Guzzi California mk 3. 1990.

alternator farked.

where to get one?
before youz suggest it -
am trying 'Reboot'.
am sussing out locally if it can be cost effectively rewound.
will ph. Motomecca tomorrow (heart rate needs to return to normal first - credit card is in intensive care as it is. )

will swop for electronic ignition unit (Rita) if anyone is ... looking .. for...one
oh c'mon - i HAVE to try dont i?!

i had to call a recovery truck last week.
first time in 11 years and 60k miles - so cant grumble.
(but i am close to despair - am thinking of selling* and buying something dull, boring, economical, bland, uninspiring, common, crap ... and japanese)

*the GS. still not selling the Guzzi unless it is for another Guzzi.

alternator or just rotor?

assuming cali 3 alternators are the same old thing they've fitted on the earlier models...rotors are £60 odd at mecca. sherlocks might be competitive too.

if it's the whole alternator, then bmw airhead unit looks totally interchangeable*, and should be more widely available.

if it's later saprisa alternator, they're £139 at mecca.


*not swapped stator, but they do seem identical. i have swapped rotors between marques.

Saprissa - though i wonder if a Bosch would fit?
(fectifino - i'm an electrophobic feckwit )

this one is definitely toasted - if you look close you can see burn marks on half the windings.

motorworks dont do Guzzi bits any longer - ta anyway.

Rob,
i may try Electrex - but am hoping for a cheaper / nearer solution.
(ever the optimist, me. should held onto my Honda C90 )

I would agree with Rob above Electrex recently supplied alternator/regulator to a friend who has put a 1000 Le Mans lump into a Pemberton 3 wheeler.
He had various bother with the stock items and Electrex sorted him out and the wiring was simpler

I used to have loads of problems when I used to work on husqvarna engines, with the windings breaking down.

They were £150 new but I found a local bloke in an arch way in london who specialized in rewind anything. Cost me £25 a time - bargain - andthe ones he rewound I never had any issues with.

Perhaps you can find the same sort of old techy local to you. Or let me know and I'll try and dig his details out

There used to be a washing machine repair man in earlsfield, s/w london who rewound electric stators rotors for a small fee.

I last used him some time ago, i'll dig around if i can find a number.

Seriously, though i have the temporary loan of a pooper scooter (yamaha majesty 400 - complete with pillion seat wide enough to use as a birthing chair - and i'm grateful for that / though Mrs Og is not so ) i'm going f*cking nuts here having no Bike to ride.
