Picked up a couple of these and re programmed them .............
however there is relatively little info on reprogramming them
I used a laptop running xp, a usb to kenwood two pin programming lead ,installed the prolific usb to 232 driver ,BF- 480 programming software.
#####this software has a trojan dropper in it.........be prepared for this#######
most of what I found said it was relatively easy...........just create the 16 tx/rx frequencies in the spreadsheet and write to radio.
mine didnt work like that
some peeps said switch on radio then plug in two pin plug
some said press moni and tx key to turn on programming mode
heres how mine works
plug in two pin plug/switch on radio
bring up 'write to radio' box
try to write to radio...........(mine wont)
momentarily disconnect two pin plug
then you get a ' force write to radio?' prompt
hit yes and viola
you might have to try a couple of times as if you are a bit slow the 'check connections' box comes up first
rem to change to 440-470 model in settings and use whatever com port your device manager is allocating to your usb/rs 232 driver......mines is com 5
