Folks, I have been watching this thread from the wings this past few days, needing a tent myself this year. I have prob only camped for about 2 nights in the past 20 years, so am definately not a seasoned camper. I am heading off on the Calum's Road trip (in the Open Invite Trips section). It's a year away, but I feel the need to get a tent this year and need to practice a few nights away on GSer trips to get into the swing of things.
I looked yesterday at the Vaude Taurus and Vaude Taurus ultralight. The ultralight was tiny when packed up and less than 2kg, easily should fit in my 1150GSA factory panniers. I hadn't considered this before, but now am really keen on the idea of keeping the tent safe in a pannier.
Bit pricey at £220, (minus GSer 15% at Cotswolds) especially for someone who is unlikely to get much use out of it, prob no more than a couple of nights a year.
So, any ideas of a really short (when packed up) tent for someone on a budget? Or should I just go for a cheapie and bungie it onto the back seat?
