Donington MotoGP this year.....bottom of the 'Old Hairpin'.....

I watched four grown men spend a full fifteen minutes, trying to get that exact model of pop up tent, back into it's bag......They got there eventually, but it looked there was a real 'knack' to it, to say the least.......

depends on what you want it for?, I had a look at these and apart from me wanting one with a big porch, the only problem i saw with these was the way it folds up, unless you can change the way its packed ur left with a big round disk shaped package, now if its to go on a bike, its gonna be a problem.

I'll say one thing tho' I wanted a tent with a bigger porch, and decathlon hadnt got what I wanted, but one thing I did notice there tents are fookin light, I looked at one for about £60 weighed about 2.5kg's

at £30 its no great loss if you have one summer out of it and find that it is shite, and u never no just coz its as cheap as chips dont mean it wont turn out to be the dryest tent u ever had, and last donkies years!!

... in my recent experience Courtesy of Noddy I took the Adult & Child model (same colour) on the second TiTS trip to the Gambia, it remained waterproof when others didn't, it remained attached to the ground when others didn't (Whirlwind in Rabat) was roomy enough for one fat bloke and a full size thermarest and at under £30 is a bargain

The packing sequence is a bit of a knack, but easy enough to master.

The only serious issue is pack size because a disc of 45 x 5cm (Adult & Child model) is not easy to accommodate on a bike; went well in the back-up truck though

But in answer to your original question, I can only say, go TiPi

Well I'm not planning on anything extereme. I have booked time off in September and I'm going to Croatia, the plan is to camp to keep the costs low. I guess I'm looking for a value for money tent, I don't do much camping so £200-£300 tents are out. I've found in the past one man tents to be just on the small side so two man is ideal as my girlfriend may want to come with me on future trips.

As I'm on the bike I'd like it to be fairly compact. Easy to erect and pack away is essential.

If you can give me that for around £100 I'm happy

It takes 15 minutes to put up or pack down, just me alone... I've never gotten wet, and there's plenty of room in the "bedroom" and benefits from the same size area in the porch which has a built in groundsheet, for sitting out of the rain, space for gear, and I've even had a bike in it.

Waterproof, and pretty strong. It's never blown over and well worth the slightly larger packed size for it's benefits.

Mine cost me £50 at a sale 2 years ago.

It is far superior to my tiny two man tent, which is a total pain just to crawl into, although it packs away to half the size...the smaller tent takes about the same time to put up too. I've not used it since I got the Vango altho I kepp it just in case I go camping on my XR

Having checked Decathlon website,the pop up tents are only a bit cheaper out here (Shanghai) where all the stuff is made so I can't be arsed to lug it back.

Will buy some more crap watches instead !

At the HU meeting I saw an smallish Khyam tent where the poles collapsed down into four sections (instead of the three of the 'Eiger') [/url]

I've a Kyham trekker ( early prototype ) two man, big porch, and the poles have 5 joints , plus you can enter from either end . Size wise it's inbetween a mackinlay and a biker, but packed it fits in a pannier easily.

Don't know why i bothered posting all this. You can't buy them But cost me £40 Ta dave

Decathlon have a Vango Sigma 200 reduced from £50 to £30.

It meets all your previously mentioned needs, and proved itself on Skye the other weekend in the gales and rain.

While lesser mortals in more expensive tents baled out to the B&B, I never adjusted mine once, and was nice and toasty inside.

So good was it, that I was despatched to Decathlon in Stockport to pick one up for Whatton, who subsequently found a larger version for himself.

It says on the bag it's waterproof up to 2000 thingies as well, which I think is good.

I have the Khyam Biker. It's not the lightest or the smallest but when you're away for a while it's pretty good to have the room in the tent & vestibule for all your kit - especially if it has been raining a lot. Headroom is excellent, meaning I don't get that claustrophobic feeling from a low ceiling. Ventilation is excellent, without causing draughts.

It was totally waterproof on my recent Russian trip (and we saw quite some rain during days and nights on that trip).

When camping with the Mrs, there’s enough room for a double airbed in the inner area, with room down the side to put clothing. It isn’t one of those cramped alleged 2-man tents.

This does mean it has a larger footprint than some but I never found that to be a problem when looking for road-side ‘sites’ in Eastern Europe / Russia.

It takes me around 3 mins to put the tent up and another 3-5 mins to put all the pegs in. Taking down takes longer to get the pegs out than to fold and pack the tent.

I’m very glad I bought this tent. Highly recommended.

we used the Quechua 2 man pop up tent...on our Bulgaria tour...we even had two in one tent wen it pissed it down near nurburg 1st nite..
after ridin 5to 600 mile a day , ye just wana throw it up..in seconds
it packs down reasonably well to fit the bike also

I use a vaude Mk 11, it has an external frame (no threading poles through bloody sleeves) and is as easy as a kyham to put up at half the weight and bulk. Planty of room inside, off ebay NOS at £150 room for 2 with enough space at the ends.

Quite like the look of that tent but please tell me you don't have to thread the poles through all those loops or does the frame fold up attached to the tent.
Also if you needed to cook in the porch will you be in the dry & warm .

I bought a Vango Beta 3 and its been great in all weathers never letting me down. From very heavy storms to heat waves its be superb!

Currently on sale here and well worth the cash. I prefer a bit of room for kit and sitting in if the weather turns nasty.
