Half decent tent?

red, you loop the shock cord over the pole and clip it to an eye attached to the tent, so so simple. The poles break down like any other poles and dont have bulky hinges like on the Khyams.

My Khyam is on Ebay at the moment, but it is too bulky for a bike

Just had a look on Ebay can't see it Charles. Infact can't see a single second hand kyham there

I've had Kyhams for the last 10 years a similar one to the biker but has 4 doors brilliant tent for me & the missus.
I have a smaller one similar to the igloo for myself but think they must be getting past their sell by date one left me lying in a pool but think it may have been my groundsheet sticking outside the cannopy so filled with water.
The main thing is the bloody doors on some of them are such a stretch to reach and where some had two doors now only 1 cost cutting I guess & with a dodgy knee cartlidge I don't trust I want to try and prevent too much kneeling down.
The packed size don't worry me too much because the bigger kyham used to fit on the vfer :)
Do like the look of the vaude though but worry the kyham has spoilt me with it's ease of errecting I brought a vango home once tried to thread the poles through & immediately thought no way is this for me & that was in my garden ideal conditions so immediately took it back & brought home the larger kyham

North Face Rock 22

Another vote for the Rock 22. Totally waterproof and takes about 2 minutes to pitch. The tent is more or less freestanding as well, making it ideal in exceptionally hard or soft ground.

Red, Item no 220337195827

I managed to get the spelling in the description wrong, which is a bit of a bummer as i cannot edit!
The Vaude tents with the external poles and shockcord are as quick as the Khyams to put up and possibly easier to take down! Not all Vaude tents have the external poles though, some have bloody sleeves. Charles

If you want a perfect little biking tent get yourself a Coleman Phad 3.
Packs up small, easy and quick to put up, withstands the storms.

Would you like me to send you back the tissues you left in the tent, they are yours, i've had them DNA'd

Only the clean ones Neil, ony just saw this.

Just ordered this one for a coming trip to Scotland in May.

Probably not the best tent around but I am sure will do the job for the price (I don't go camping that much in the year, maybe 3 to 4 times)

Nothing wrong with that tent. The Vango Beta 3 I have looks very much like it and superb in all weathers. Its never let me down and gives me loads of room to sit around inside when it hammers down with rain or open it up when its hot!...... :thumb2

Cheers for the feedback Mike, I have been debating on how much i should spend, and I know that you get what you pay for, but for the amount of camping I do, I thought that this tent will do it. Bargain I guess for £35 delivered.

Folks, I have been watching this thread from the wings this past few days, needing a tent myself this year. I have prob only camped for about 2 nights in the past 20 years, so am definately not a seasoned camper. I am heading off on the Calum's Road trip (in the Open Invite Trips section). It's a year away, but I feel the need to get a tent this year and need to practice a few nights away on GSer trips to get into the swing of things.

I looked yesterday at the Vaude Taurus and Vaude Taurus ultralight. The ultralight was tiny when packed up and less than 2kg, easily should fit in my 1150GSA factory panniers. I hadn't considered this before, but now am really keen on the idea of keeping the tent safe in a pannier.

Bit pricey at £220, (minus GSer 15% at Cotswolds) especially for someone who is unlikely to get much use out of it, prob no more than a couple of nights a year.

So, any ideas of a really short (when packed up) tent for someone on a budget? Or should I just go for a cheapie and bungie it onto the back seat?

Is that what you have, or do you know someone who has one?

I'll need to get one too, and if you think one of those is a good enough buy, I might as well get one now so I can practise a return to fabric-based accommodation sooner rather than later. I haven't camped for about 14 years, and I bought my last tent about 1976 - I only threw it out about 2005. :D

Not got that one, I've a couple of tents including a Khyam biker but it's going to be too big for the trip.

To be honest I'm looking at a Coleman Avior x2 or Phact 2 which you can get for £70 or £80.

Going to keep the budget for a decent 4 season sleeping bag and a wide mouthed bottle with a screw on lid which might be useful. :augie :D

If you want I can haggle for a multiple buy. :blagblah

If you think you'd be able to get a reduction for a group buy, then I'm in. I know next to nothing about what to look for in a good tent, so I'm happy to take advantage of your experience! And the same goes for the sleeping bag - my last one was older than the tent I bought in '76, so the less said about it, the better...:augie

Leave it with me for a couple of days, I'll ring Betty later and see if he wants one as well.

Need to get something sorted as I'm intending to camp at the Shropshire Meet at the end of the month. :blast :rob
