Okay so I dropped the bike a month ago and the Left hand plastic "hand guard" has a split in it and needs replacing.

Anyone found a replacement guard which is bigger that the standard? :(

total replacement

The unit is cracked at the bolt so it will need a total replacement.

I had heard there were some oversized hand guards that were bigger than the standard as I find the standard hand guard a touch small and either my knuckles or finger tips freeze in the sub-zero temps.

If you still have the 07 bike you can do a couple of things in the line of bigger guards. The first is to fit the Toura tech extensions. These make the top of the guards a couple of inches higher. There is a down side to theses though. They can cause a back draughts which can go straight down the back of your gloves :(

The bigger problem with them is that they don't do much for your finger tips, as they tend to stick out the bottom a little, which sounds like your gripe. Being plastic its easy to make up a plate to go across the bottom of the guard to fill this part in, thus helping to eliminate the draughts.

If you have a look around the various BMW GS related websites of Nippy Norman and the like you will find quit a few different types, most of them more expensive than the OE BM ones and really designed for more off road protection than from the weather.

Ultimately of course you will not do much better than you already have without fitting (if I may be so bold) muffs :nenau

already posted that link but the OP has broken the bar so would have to replace that first. There might be a few in the Acerbis range that would do and completely replace the whole lot but as Val said they are mainly aimed at at off road.
