I am getting a garmin 2610 and do not want a ram mount but want to fix it to the handlebar cross bar. Can anybody recommend the best mount please ?

Try the Touratech mounts. I have one for the Quest which could mount directly on the cross bar.

You should know that this does make the GPS quite low and requires you to take your eyes from the road a lot. If you do a search there are other mounts which put your 2610 closer to your line of sight.

Touratech mounts have a posative cam action that means your GPS should not fall out, you also get ones that are lockable - my last one came off fleBay for 45 quid. I favour the combination of RAM mount and TT - mine comes off my left hand bar and places the GPS over the clutch, yes I know it means taking my eyes off the road, but it also means my fingers are only a couple of inches from the bar at any time, I prefer this to having to reach way forward to change things.

Ermm.... not that I would do such a thing whilst riding officer.

If you ride an 1150GS the touratech 2610 cradle will bolt straight onto the crossbar no probs, you just have ot take the padding off. It is very rare we have to fit Ram mounts to any BM's

The standard 2610 mount together with a BMW adaptor (around £11 from your local dealer) and you're on your way :thumb

TT mount is very nice, especially the anti vibe, locking version. be aware, it does have a couple of drawbacks though:

1) the ali construction of the cradle interferes with signal reception. i found an external antenna useful.

2) mounted on the crossbar, it will interfere with certain tank bags. i've always used mine in conjunction with a RAM mount for that reason and the fact i can position it where i want easier.

i actually use the cheap RAM mostly now. as it is so simple & relatively small.
