Anyone have a clue why? It doesn't feel any different riding. An only happens occasionally.
They creak mainly when I lift it off the sidestand to ride off, Or when I'm pushing it in an out the garage.

I'm stumped as to what to look at. Nothing appears loose.

Cheers
Pete

the bars on the gs 'float' so when your draggin it about with them they moe hence the creek, go check now sit on your bike and you can move them slightly :)

weird as hell, dont ask me why there like it.

When i first noticed it i went straight to bmw and tried it on all the gs in the show room lol. there all the same :O

Excellent thank you.

So it's just a "They all do that" kinda thing.

Cheers

If it has the crossbrace check if loose. I thought the head bearing was gone on mine

I've never heard any creaking from my bars. You sure its not the fork sliders or the floating discs?

You are levering a 200+kg lump by means of a bar that varies in diameter from 22mm to 28.5mm x approx 400mm long... it will creak.

No cross brace, standard BM tapered bars.

Everything rolls smoothly.

Many thanks for puttin my mind at rest about it.

Slacken the bar clamps squirts in some wd40 and religion. If creaking stops or changes in some way, you have an issue with the bar clamps.

Flex

I couldn't believe how much flex my Adventure bars had, with brace fitted. I too suspected head bearing.....then figured I'd check the brace fixings. DOH! :blast

Another problem fixed.

I'll give it a go. Just gotta grab some female tork sockets. The only one I have is for a rover head bolts

Cheers

There is no handlebar play on my '06. There is a slight amount of play on my '09: it takes the form of one side of the handlebars being able to move up as the other side moves down.

I checked the nut securing the upper triple clamp's steering shaft to the head bearing. Tight, but the play is still there. The bearing probably has a small amount of runout.

The GSA has four 10mm threads into the top headstock, but the handlebar clamps only use two of the threads. Mine make no noise but maybe if the M10s are not fully tight they could creak. The other pair of clamp bolts are M8, but they don't go through the riser block.

The correct fitting is to do the M10s up tight then clamp the bars with the M8s. Maybe if an M10 has been left loose the riser could creak.

Check your ball joint?

Mine started doing this a week or two ago, but I thought nothing of it until I realised bike (2010 GSA 30yr) was wandering slightly over road irregularities. Had it in at Jefferies yesterday for service and mentioned it.

Bottom line: Front suspension ball joint has play and needs renewing, so I had to book it back in for that in 2 weeks time. Apparently BuMW will 'probably contribute' to the cost of replacement.

I should think so since the bike is not yet 3 years old and has only just topped 15k miles... :blast
