Adjustment with the pump is the only adjustment possible and that includes preload - whatever the Fournales web page says.

they do a Duo shock that'll offer preload for riding two up or loaded with luggage.

I'm no suspension guru and to be honest all that stuff is a bit of a mystery, that's why the Fournales with the one click Duo adjustment appealed - one setting for solo use and one for two up. Simple

Contrary to what Fournales web page stated the supplied rear shock had no one click Duo option. When I questioned the UK imported the Duo facility was not an option on the 1100 unless the unit was assembled on the bike - or something like that. All told I wasn't impressed by the Fournales experience. That said, I should've looked into them more.

I brought Ohlins and have been quite happy with them though the preload adjuster did blow a seal on holiday this year. I don't know if it's fair to blame the shock as we were overloaded. Whatever, the blown seal didn't stop an enjoyable holiday.

FWIW. If I had to replace the suspension again I'd get the OE shocks rebuilt or replaced with new. I still think the handling was best on new OE shocks. I dare say if I had the know how the Ohlins could be set to match OE performance, but I don't.

My only experience of Ohlins shocks is a triple Clicker on a GSXR600. As standard the rebound damping was set up way to hard 14 clicks off max out of 48. I backed this off to 24 clicks out then back in to 22 clicks to eliminate wallow on fast sweepers. Tis lovely now.

I put a Rear second hand Ohlin on my 1100 4 months ago, purely because I found the original to harsh, even bought another spare and found the same, the Ohlins were great didn't get he jarring I was getting before and I just couldn't get enough preload on when loaded up, though it is taking me ages to get the setting right and can't quite fathem out the preload setting (at least the Original had markings for standard and soft.. etc).
They haven't failed yet, don't have any idea on how old they are, but will keep an eye as it looks like a rebuild once a year for me :-(
