Hard wiring my 2610

Thanks Tommo

Great idea i think i'll copy that if you don't mind :clap I can only see the red wire from Gps cable on the photo what have you done with the black one have you just earthed it ?

Yes thats right I earthed it together with the earth cable from the socket. When you have the side panels off you will see a screw that is holding the oil pipe in place I used this one.:thumb

I could not make up my mind as to which was the best way to wire up my 2610. I could see the advantages in going into the CanBus system whereby the system shuts down when the ignition is turned of leaving the feed to the Garmin 100% safe, but wiring this way as previously stated means you have to have the ignition on to programme the unit. On the other hand I did not like the idea of having it wired directly from the battery with no real means of making the plug end safe other than fixing on the little white cap to the plug.
So I decided to wire mine up via a switch that enables me to manually turn off the power to the Garmin and the accessory plug when they’re not in use. I did this by making up a small bracket that is held in place with the large nut that holds the accessory plug on and mounting a small switch onto to it see pictures. I think this way of wiring it up gives me the best of both worlds.

im not sure why you went to the extra trouble of a cut out switch (neat job though:clap ) when the 2610 has an on off switch and when its disconnected there is only a miniscule amount of electric in the plug end-no electric shock or zip tp worry about

I put the switch underneath and out of site for two reasons
1. I felt it safer for the GPS power cable when not in use to be isolated.
2. It also cuts out the power to the socket when the bike is left out unattended.:thumb2
