Hi Guys ive just ordered my R1200 gs Adventure and have asked BMW to fit my Tom Tom V2 on it for me and they have said quote it will give a voltage drop on the can bus system and cause problems. However there is a 12v socket designed to take ancillaries so i dont understand can any one explain and can this be hard wired leaving the socket free for something else.
Cheers in advance:comfort

Can't see why they can't just use the hard wiring for the Garmin that's already in place.
Could splice into wiring leaving Garmin socket available to next user.

PS: They could wire to the back of the power socket. There's even an OEM part to add another socket that they could use. Both these options would give power only with ignition. If you can remember to switch off you could wire direct to battery.

Wire direct to battery. The power drain is minimal and you will remove when you leave the bike anyway. It's worked for me on several bikes.

Cheers guys i will have a word i think they are just trying to get me to buy the BM GPS system but it aint gonna work. It can`t be any more of a voltage drop than any other system and i`ve seen plenty with the TM TM on any way:thumb
