Harley Davidson Books ?

I'm thinking about getting a Harley, I like the look of the Road King but have little knowledge about Harley's in general Could you chaps tell me what HD books would be a good purchase

What's your budget, for the Road King that is not the book??

road kings range from 1994 ish to today, 1340 to 1690cc Carbed to fuel injected, ....price..... From £6000 to £18000+

If you give some idea of budget/year etc we can help....

Most HD books are pretty asinine, usually of the 'coffee table' or 'fantasist' variety...

Before you buy why not go along to a couple of HDRCGB meets. You'll see loads of bikes of varying ages, none of them standard, and you'll get real life advice.

Going from what has been said on here before I'm looking for a 1340 EVO engined 90's Road King, Not sure about carbed or injected Looking for something pretty standard not messed around with.

Spotted a nice 95th Anniversary model for £6250 on evelbay Saturday but that went straight away

I might even be interested in something that needs work, I enjoy getting me hands dirty, as long as the price reflects the condition.

There seem to be quite a few HDs that look similar to the RK, I quite like the look of the Street Glide with its fairing but which of these has the best road handling ?

road handling ,on a harley !!!,slow down a minute ,the two dont go together ,

only kidding,you have to adjust your riding style ,and whole thinking,its a whole new ball game ,just sit back ,and relax ,didnt look at your avatar ,what part of the country are you in ?.

Ok, some will say a late 90's EVO is the best... Totally rebuildable and bullit proof. ( mines got 93k on it and BHT's is into the 80k range) as for carb / injection it was an option at the time.... So late 90' bikes will be available in both formats.... Carbs easier to fix/ less electrics etc etc.... Softball Heritege looks like a road king but is a softail... Same will say softails don't handle....

street glides are much newer (2006 -current ) and are Twin cams... No EVO here...

Road Kings are Electra Glides with no Batwing Fairing..... Street Glides are lowered "stripped down" Electra Glides.... With me so far......

Basically they are all Electra Glides with/without various bits of fairing/tat etc...

They are very smooth, handle well for a large heavy bike and are quite consuming once you have been bitten...

Like I said, hang around and read some threads, all of life is here or at a cafe near you

Forget books on Harleys, I have been given many of the years as presents, all pretty much the same, pictures and history, not much else.

For the bottom end of the HD budget a 90's Evo engined bike is the thing to have, they are generally reliable, the engine is bullet proof, and at the age group should be well sorted. Being that even then many were bought as trophies, finding low milege examples should not be a big issue.

They are a lot of fun, and although I don't have one now, I never get bored with looking or playing with them. Carb models are fine, simple to work on and I never had any issue with the carbs.

Just buy an Electra Glide and take the Tourpak off

And lower the suspension, change the front wheel out for a bigger one and swap the mirror arrangements and almost there. I love my Street Glide, then again I loved my Ultra too!
