Harley Davidson Books ?

twizzle ,i love your bike ,its got character

luckily so do i.... its a keeper....... i've decided not to mess with it cosmetically, leaving a patina of use.... so all efforts now are on ergonomics and realiability...

Ive got all the new bearings/seals/brackets/bits&bobs lined up to put her back together over the next few weekends.... then early Jan its off to Rik at Bike Tech (Local Indie as used by Codcutter for his rocket ship) to make the forward controls and fit the 13" Bagger Bars...... and before i get flamed, the reason Rik is fitting the bars is we have to extend all the cables etc and Rik makes his own.. (Skill/Tools etc)

extended bars ,yeah all the wiring is a pain ,i did think about doing it (for 10 seconds ) then thought no .
by the time ive brought the bars ,cables wires ,new ballend /bullseye indicators ,nothing worse than a nice pair of apes ,and a hideous pair of indicators hanging from them ,utterly utterly hideous.
im looking at the best part of £700 ,didnt see that one coming ,i really want them but willl have to think seriously about the costs .

So what are the differences between a Road King and a Softail

Different platform is the big one and suspension type.

A Softail is shorter in length ( to start with) and lower to ground, it has one suspension unit between the engine/chassis low down in front of the rear wheel.
A Road King uses a touring frame, being slightly longer with the more traditional twin shock set up like some other motorcycles still have. From new however this suspension is based on 'air' with adjustment from 0-50lbs available in the shock.

The RK is heavier, more ground clearance, longer and more suitable for touring especially two up. Glides are essentially the same bike except for the addition of a Batwing fork mounted fairing

Road King/Glide it is then :thumb2

Cool, something to consider though if you get one is changing the suspension from air to normal pre load variety. I have SE versions on mine which feel less inclined to bottom out, can set firmer for a sportier ride and can be adjusted at the twirl of a knob (not me :eek).
