Harley Iron 883

Just got a new Iron 883. Had it shipped over to the Channel Islands, got £800 off plus the VAT off so it came in just under £5K, bargain!

Took it out today for the first time, after a few miles got familiar with it, at first it reminded me of riding a Royal Enfield! Overall really enjoyed it and just what I was after. Downsides, quieter than I expected (that will be sorted, I hate the chrome pipes) and brakes are shit (probably because its new and compared to my GSA). Once its run in I will give it a proper thrashing

Looking to make quite a few mods, vance and hines short shots exhaust to start.

Anyone else got one they have modded?

I like the side stand puck.

By the size of it and the modern material it's made from, i'd say it's a genuine Harley factory item as well.

I think you'll find, these days, if it's made in the "Far East"...it's gen-you-wine Harley....

Be careful with the Short Shots, they are VERY LOUD

They look nice with a headlight shroud on them and a fatter front wheel :cool

i like it ,wouldnt mind seeing a bit of pinstriping on the rear mudguard,but i guess thats so yesterday .
think it might just lift it a bit ,otherwise really like it ,think the sportster in some ways is the purest harley .no bells ,whistles etc

Re the brakes.

Twenty odd years ago, I bought a new 883 Sportster and the brakes on that thing were useless. I simply replaced the hoses with Aeroquip jobbies and fitted AP Lockheed pads. Simple and cheap.

100% improvement....so much so, that when I traded it in for a Low-rider, the ‘technician’ who gave my ‘bike a run ‘round the block, to make sure that all was well, so so ssssssssso nearly went over the handle bars when he hit the brakes...... then

I lost £1.00 (as in one quid) in three years on that ‘bike.....

Add a floating Disk to that and you will have reasonable stoppers. Or for a few hundred £'s a 6 pot calliper, and your brakes will be as good as your GS.

I think a floating disk, 6 pot caliper and braided hoses on a bike with the power and weight of a sporty might just be overkill?

My missus had one. Put four pot callipers on it. Had it changed to 1200cc, different rear shocks. Vance and hines short shots....very loud!!! put baffles in to turn the volume down!!!

The bike went well,stopped well...and even handled well.....ish
