I haven't cleaned mine since I got it, but I can see it's going to be a fucker of a job when I do.
I'm thinking of getting one of those lifts that makes things a bit easier than crouching down for hours... Anyone got one? Blue Rizer was one, I think.
In other cleaning news, don't buy Auto Glym Engine Cleaner: on the back, it tells you to avoid polished alloy, tape up stuff to protect it and so on. What bollocks.

I've been using this on mine....spray on, soft brush, hose off. Works a treat.

Another tip is to periodically spray it with GT85.
After using this it always comes up clean, because it helps stops the shit sticking to it in the first place.
....and if anyone's reading this who owns a 1200GS LC, it's great for stopping corrosion.

Leave the fucking pile of junk outside in the rain for a couple of months, anything that goes rusty, powder coat it, anything that falls off, leave it off.
What you have left, burn and walk away.

My RK is pretty easy to clean compared to the damn GSA which has vents, nooks, and crannies everywhere. Hell there's the windshield, a small clear shield behind that, and two small clear wings, none of which I can get my hand behind to clean. Then there are the wheels made with black (worst colour to keep clean) rims, and all the damn spokes! On the RK just pull off the shield and bags wash, rinse, dry the paint with a towel, then go for a ride to dry off the rest. Once a year the paint gets waxed and the black drivetrain sprayed with S100 Engine Brightener to keep it from fading to gray.
I do now understand how difficult it must be to prevent corrosion on stuff in the UK, it must be especially difficult near the coast. And you're very near the coast now Twizzle so you'll be needing to clean and polish religiously!

It doesn't take the brains of a genius to work out that a chromed up HD with white wall tyres is a really, really stupid bike to own in the UK.
As for not replacing the tyres until they have worn out .......... if you want to live you'll junk them in the next week.

That's a nice view I can see why you wanted to be close to..., well is that considered the Atlantic, the Chanel? Nice gradual slope down to the water too. Being near an ocean (or any large body of water) is special for me simply because being inland I'm seldom near one, in fact haven't been to an ocean for a few years now. We are renting a beach house at Nags Head North Carolina in April however the off season solitude of the beach setting will likely be offset by the in-laws and grandchildren who we're sharing it with. Looking forward to it nevertheless.

I didn't have bleach based toilet wipes to hand, so used anti bacterial travel wipes instead. The tyres came up a like new.

Ps. Your right Mutley they are a stupid bike to own adorned in chrome and white walls.
Pps. The travel wipes were non scented ones.
Technically it's called "The Solent" as it's to the north of the Isle of Wight, although I live east of the most easterly point of the island...Then straight Out to the "Nab tower" and it's the English Channel, around 6 miles offshore...
