Am I right in thinking that there's only one harness plug and BMW use this for the factory fit sat nav cradle ?.

There are two plugs, the one under the seat is for the red enduro device, the one on the left next to the headlight is for the sat nav, they do a plug from the dealer or nippy normans that fits.... if your sat nav has the resistor block in the power lead, the can bus only see,s the transformer. It will supply enough to turn on your sat nav but will not charge it, some times it also does not switch off with the key and can flatten the battery, these are my experience,s on my 1200 lc

To wire mine, I cut in to the harness just under the power socket it was the only to get my Garmin to work on the key...

The one I wanted to use is the one at the front next to the headlight but this is being used by what I can only think is the BMW installed sat nav ( white plug into a black socket),
So I think the only way to get a fixed power supply is go directly to the battery or as you have, cut into the harness under the power socket.
Switching off with key is what I'm after.

Hello

I'm looking for switched power under the seat of my GSA 12 lc, to power up my new dashcam toy (paranoid, I know, but nearly thrown off a couple of weeks ago by a cager on a phone - and I'd dearly liked to have had him banned, so got myself an Innovv K1, which seems good).

I was thinking of taking power from the battery to a relay, and then splicing into some swtiched power circuit under the seat, eg lights. You don't happen to have a wiring diagram, or some handy knowledge about a neat way to do this.

Sorry to butt in here, but hope you can help.

regards
Toby

There is a spare plug behind the left hand side front panel...to help you find it, with your steering aiming straight ahead it's about 3 inches to the left of the left hand fork leg about 6 inches down from the underside of the headstock.

It's switched on with the ignition, I don't know if this is the type of thing that you are looking for, this plug is pre-wired to drive the optional BMW spot-lamps, however you may need to visit BMW to get them to tell your bike's computer to switch it on!

Thanks for this. However, I need to locate my dashcam control unit under the seat. Thus I was looking for a switched power source under the seat. I reckon wiring something from this spare plug you mention will be more hassle than splcing into some powered wires and running a relay to them and powering directly from the battery. I'm just nervous about what to splice into with canbus sensitivities. Any thoughts?

Is this the case? Can it be done without a visit to the dealer?

I think all the canbus circuits are very current sensitive and will switch off if not in the set tolerance ,the only one that is not is the Din socket, but that is five amp max after that it switches off.. the plug on the left is for the standard satnav, it may switch a relay, but it would not charge my garmin 590...

Fit a PDM60 and use this to run any thing else, no trouble with the canbus system then:beer:

Maybe you should just wire it direct from the battery with an inline fuse, this will keep it simple, you don't even need to remove the battery as there is a remote chassis terminal connection post close to the outside R/H battery terminal to make connections easy. I can't remember which polarity is which but it will be apparent when you remove the plastic cover...or some bod on here will post the answer.

If you want it switched you could wire it through a non BMW spotlamp switch on the bars, you can get a spot-lamp switch from this guy.. [email protected]
