Has a plastic cover dropped off your bike?

I noticed that at the point the telelever joins to the engine (right hand side) the bolt was exposed. Not so on the left which had a plastic cover fitted. This didnt look right but given there seems to be a policy a bmw to fit plastic caps on the left and not the right, leaving room for the aftermarket guts to finish the bike, i checked againt the pidcocks demo. It had one so mine must have blown off. When I spoke to Pidcocks on then fuel pump recall it seems that loosing these caps is quite common and the design has now been changed. Also the caps have been known to jam open the throttle as they fall back towards the throttle body causing mucho brown trouser drama for some poor unfotunates. Worth checking yours is still attached I'd say. Anyone else had this happen? Sorry no pics, i need to get my technology sorted.

And I've never heard of any caps jamming the throttle 'body' open.

If you mean the cover on the opposite side to the black one in the pic below (no RHS pic to hand) then yes they did and i believe still do come without a cover. I got one recently from Nippy Normans, for about £7 I think. Neatens it up.

Put a small blob of clear bathroom silicone sealeant on the plastic bung, it will keep it inplace but not firmly enough if you need to remove it for maintainence. Well it works on the tele lever pivots on my 1150.

no not that one - i too have ordered the nippy norman bit. The bit that I'm referring too is at the engine end of the telelever - ie the long alloy spar that goes to the fork brace(apologies if this sucking eggs teritory - must leanrn how to post pics!), its just in front/slightly above the throtle body so can see how it might jam in there and cause problems.

They do fall off, I lost a couple on my 1150R. Just fit the new one with a little silicone sealant

I've lost two of them. The first one I noticed was missing when the bike was returned after the 10,000km service. I suspected it was lost during the service, so I managed to convince the dealer to supply a new one. Which I securely fixed in place. But at 16,000km it has now disappeared as well. The bike will just have to live without it for some time.
